You may be right...but do you think Adam Walsh made changes over night??? No..he had to get LOUD to be heard. This is an election year coming...one thing for 60% to be against a war..another thing to start making huge media waves in an election year...anyways..no one said change happens overnight...maybe not with Bush..maybe with the next group....not the point...point is we have a right to be heard...to speak...so I say SHOUT IT OUT....be heard..and who knows...MAYBE...just MAYBE change will come.... What do we have to lose by trying?? WE've already lost something very precious...our time with our loved ones...we can't get that back...but we CAN be movers and shakers and make a difference for someone else...TRY..

We start with a dozen today...tomorrow a hundred...Adam Walsh was ONE man..on a mission...if you can believe it, you CAN achieve it....

SOOO LETS GOOOO...

I didn't catch this earlier, but I think your analogy is a bit faulty.

For starters, Adam Walsh's son was violently killed as a child. He lost his son, and will never see him again, at least not in this life.

Adam Walsh was able to campaign to help stop something that will not be going away anytime soon, violent crimes and criminals.

Now...

Us, trying to get heard on a matter of immigration, which is a privilege, not a right, is a little different. We didn't have something taken away from us, we just happened to fall for someone who is of another country.

Am I saying that a lot of us cannot make a difference? No, not really. But to compare our fight to the fight of Adam Walsh...well, it's really not even in the same ballpark IMO.

Besides, what happens if by the time we even mustered enough support for this, and half the people got their NOA2's or visas and stopped caring?

Once the immigration process is over, I'm not sorry to say it, I am not exactly going to worry about anyone else's immigration journey anymore, except maybe Amy's parents if they decide they want to come over, and even then, they aren't the ones I love the way I do her, so it'd just be like, something that was happening.

It's real easy to keep caring about a dead child because there are lots of people who have lost children way too early, and never want to see it happen again.

The idea to this wasn't the nature of the issue crime vs privilege. It was about ONE voice making a difference. Adam Walsh isnt the only person to be heard. Crime isn't the only thing that brings about change.

I for one won't stop. Sorry...Im not sooo focused on just MY petition that i'd leave the future to hang. I hope others can muster the same passion for change...NOT just for ourselves..but in the interest of doing what is right. If our voices ignite a flame of desire for change, it will be passed on to new members...Anyways...look how many finish their journey here..but care enough to come back to help newbies...so I do believe in the human heart..and that most of us here would start the torch and that there will always be others to pass that torch on to.

I've said my peace...Just if anyone wants to see change...write, fax, email, call....make our voices heard....

For now...GOOOOOOOOOOOO VSC!!!!!!!!!!!!

No offense, but I am kinda glad you don't work for USCIS. A privilege?? It is a "free country" so I am told.

No offense, but I am kinda glad you don't work for USCIS. A privilege?? It is a "free country" so I am told.

Um, yes, it is. It's a 'free country' to its citizens.

Nowhere in any important document (IE: The Constitution, Declaration of Independence) does it say "All foreign nationals have a right to enter our country provided they do it legally".

Immigration, even legal immigration, is a privilege, not a right. Period.

Look around, there are plenty of people who'd be happy if we shut the borders today and not one more foreigner entered the country. I am not one of those people. I believe in the legal process, and if you follow it, and learn the language if you don't already speak it, welcome to America as far as I am concerned.

But if you think that the right to bring foreign nationals into our country is one of those 'inalienable rights' granted to us, you are unfortunately, mistaken.

Please don't misunderstand, I am not trying to cause trouble, I have written letters, and I am trying to get the process going better for all of us. But I believe if anyone goes around calling it "our right" to have our loved ones enter the country through immigration, the government just might laugh at you and tell you it's not. And that's not helpful to anyone.

I agree...its not a foreigners "right" or "privilege" to just waltz into America. However it IS MY RIGHT to file for this and use this service. I AM an American Citizen. I PAY for this service as I pay for my cable, my electric or any other service I need. I dont HAVE to have electric to survive, its a privilege...but its my RIGHT to have it. AND its my right to get answers when I call regarding any service i pay for. THIS is the issue. NOT if its a right or privilege for someone to enter our country. Its our right to voice our issues. But I agree its NOT the privilege or right of a foreigner to just waltz in. But that wasn't even the issue.

I never said it was my fiance's right, but it is MY right. I pay taxes, I paid for this service, etc. It is probably better off I don't discuss this topic.

Well, when you start throwing around blanket statements like 'it's my right!' and 'it's a free country!' I had to assume you meant the process was your right.

We do have a right to get information and we should have at the very least, adequate service from the system since we do pay for it. That's why I and others have written letters essentially asking "####### is going on?'

this thread is now making me miserable...this used to be a happy place...####### happened?!

i know everyone is high strung because there are no approvals right now, but come on...ive been waiting 87 days now, some have been waiting longer, some less...lets just play nice...wanna write a letter or 20?...DO IT...if you dont want to, then DONT...if you want to debate and argue, theres plenty of that going in the Off Topic forum...you can discuss anything under the sun...that is not what this thread is for, and quite frankly, its depressing...

until i see some movement at the VSC ill be browsing about, trying to keep myself busy...some suggestions for anyone interested:

1. read a book (or several)

2. knit a quilt (or a sweater!)

3. learn a foreign language (your fiance's or a completely new one)

4. start a small business...ill be guiding tours in NYC starting in November, if anyone is interested =)

5. write letters to congressman, media, etc (concerning immigration or any other issue that interests you)

6. excercise (join the gym!)

7. search for businesses and/or organizations that concern immigrants from your fiance's country (maybe there are some local ones)

8. learn to cook (expand your horizons)

9. study the kama sutra (for obvious reasons)

10. research the potential presidential nominees for 2008 (this would do us ALL some good)

No approvals this week ???????

There have been no VSC approvals since the 18th. CSC (including NSC & TSC) are really cranking them out though. They have had 31 approvals since the 18th.

this thread is now making me miserable...this used to be a happy place...####### happened?!

i know everyone is high strung because there are no approvals right now, but come on...ive been waiting 87 days now, some have been waiting longer, some less...lets just play nice...wanna write a letter or 20?...DO IT...if you dont want to, then DONT...if you want to debate and argue, theres plenty of that going in the Off Topic forum...you can discuss anything under the sun...that is not what this thread is for, and quite frankly, its depressing...

until i see some movement at the VSC ill be browsing about, trying to keep myself busy...some suggestions for anyone interested:

1. read a book (or several)

2. knit a quilt (or a sweater!)

3. learn a foreign language (your fiance's or a completely new one)

4. start a small business...ill be guiding tours in NYC starting in November, if anyone is interested =)

5. write letters to congressman, media, etc (concerning immigration or any other issue that interests you)

6. excercise (join the gym!)

7. search for businesses and/or organizations that concern immigrants from your fiance's country (maybe there are some local ones)

8. learn to cook (expand your horizons)

9. study the kama sutra (for obvious reasons)

10. research the potential presidential nominees for 2008 (this would do us ALL some good)

1. Done...Currently reading one...

2. I was knitting a scarf for my fiance but stopped cause one knot was wrong so I had to start all over again...

3. I know my fiance´s language already so I started taking french classes but stopped! The basic 2 class didn´t open cause we were only 5 people.

4. I´m currently working for my father but this is the last week so I gotta figure something out for the next weeks...

Guiding tours in the city!!!?? Wow! That´s exciting!!! I can´t wait to go back to NY  (Hurry VSC!!!)!!!! I would love that job, haha! but I´m stuck in Peru right now!!! :(

5. Fiance is in charge. :)

6. Too lazy to work out right now, maybe next week...heh heh!

7. I´m in Peru...

8. I´ve learned some stuff but I don´t like cooking for one.

9. You just reminded me that I have the book at home! hahaha! :D
