Criminal check currently unattainable

Hi guys,

I'm trying to gather documents for NVC and need to obtain criminal checks from 3 countries. The British and UK ones were really simple to get and I've had them for a while. I'm having a lot of difficulty obtaining one from South Korea. Unlike the other 2, I have to A) apply at a Korean police station or B) apply at a local embassy. The latter wouldn't normally be an issue at all. I live in Colombia so would normally fly to Bogota to apply in person. Inconvenient but definitely feasible.

However, the Korean embassy in Bogota won't receive anyone for visa purposes. I think it's emergency/humanitarian reasons only during the strict quarantine that's in place throughout the country.

Has anyone successfully filed their financial documents and criminal checks with the absence of one of the documents/checks? Perhaps with the aim of acquiring it at a later date for the interview.

Thanks in advance,

Yes - you can choose “unavailable” in the tab for this document and under comments explain that you’re currently unable to obtain the PCC due to closure of the local embassy due to covid-19.

NVC has accepted this explanation from many. However, you’ll need to obtain it prior to your interview, and also upload to your ceac account (even after DQ).

Did you try this:

People who reside outside of Korea and far away from a Korean Embassy or Consulate can mail an application to the Korean National Police Agency. The mailing address and guidance are provided at Korean National Police Agency website at minwon.police.go.kr.  People who submit requests by mail should contact the Korean National Police by phone at 82-2-3150-2676 after mailing the application

Sounds like a good idea but I think I'd have trouble calling as my Korean is absolutely terrible, and I don't know anyone there any more. The plan was to speak Spanish to the Koreans in the embassy in Bogota.

Get A Lawyers Letter in time For the Interview

Probably a stupid question, but do you think a lawyer in Colombia would suffice? I'm not really sure how I'd go about doing this.

It’s not a good suggestion. Where is your interview?

I Just Contacted an Immigration Lawyer, and Was told that A lawyers letter would not be accept in place of a Police Certificate, he said there's no way around a police Certificate Requirement, we have to find a way to get it.

I'm sorry for my Previous Comment, I was told that by Someone.

They might speak English! I had to get one from Taiwan (not Korea but close enough) and the police certificate guy spoke english when I called.

I'd be surprised if SOMEONE at the police number that you have to call can't speak English.  Mail the letter and call the number.  Very low cost/risk.

Or, call the number first and see if anyone speaks English.  If they do, then send the letter and call again.
