well how easy or hard is it to look for a job in the USA???

its now time for me to look for a job.

not much wedding stuff left to clear up.

no need to organise my things from the UK.

are place, now is perfect for the 2 of us.

and my EAD is suppose to arrive in 3 weeks.

originally i was going to continue my career as a Med Tech, but the hours suck, that i won't be able to see me husband at all.

would be like being back in the UK having a long distance relationship again.

so i was thinking about changing careers.

but don't know if companies here are willing to train people with no experience.

what do you think?

tell us how's your job hunting going.

It depends on where you live and what type of job you're looking for. Look in the local papers and see if there are many jobs in your field.

It's like any country, really. There are some jobs who would be willing to train you...others you need a degree and/or experience.

How about at a Dr's office, they are usually closed at 5pm.

Hi there. We basically have the same timeline, and just like you, I am also waiting for my EAD to get approved.

A couple of weeks ago, I thought of looking for an IT job since I was told job interviews/appointments together with background investigation could take up to a month. Last week I got interviewed and the company pretty much liked my experience and exposure. When I told them my EAD or (hopefully) GC would arrive in 1-2 months, they said the position could wait for another month or two. So it was ok... They are willing to wait and they will officially offer me the job when my EAD arrives. Now the waiting time is killing me because I want to start as much as possible!

I just saw CELARLILY's timeline and its killing me more.

I was writing a long post about how hard it was to find a job, and how hard it is when you don't have a lot of experience, and how useless a degree in Liberal Arts is, and that if I ever have children, they will major in Liberal Arts only over my dead body. But while I was writing all that, my director walked in (I'm at work), and I had to close all my web pages quickly, so I lost all that I had written :(

Anyways, experience is important - employers like it when you have 7-10 years of experience doing the exact same job in a very similar setting. Education is also important, but only when it's job-specific (like a degree in Software Engineering). Nobody normally likes to train unless it's a crappy semi-skilled job where they pay you something around $10 an hour - in this case they will train a person without experience.

It kind of depends.... many companies are degree snobs and only want to hire someone with a degree or tons of experience. Also, when I applied for jobs, many refused me because they couldn't verify my previous employment, or didn't wanna bother with overseas calls, and all that.

Other employers are great. i finally found a job at an optometrist's office, and my boss hired me on the spot.

If you wanna stay in the field as a tech, you can go to any Dr. office and apply. For most of these jobs, you don't need certification or anything ( I had never worked in the medical field before), and they train you on the job.

It differs from state to state of course, also! Could be too easy otherwise!

Would a Med Tech be something that would lend itself easily to being a Physicians Assistant? If so, I know my doctor doesn't work odd hours...

Good luck - I work in telecom, so that's about as helpful as I can be

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.
