Hi there,

So I posted a while back asking for some advice. I believe we've made a decision (we've gone back and forth over the last however long), and we're going to get married soon, and file all the relevant paperwork so I can stay. I've done some research but I'm feeling really quite overwhelmed with it and the more research I do, the worse/more confused I seem to feel about the whole process. Is anyone able to tell me, once we're married, do I have to fill out and send everything at the same time with all the relevant information? What if I can't get my medical done as soon as everything else? What if we don't have enough proof of a legitimate marriage just yet (this is so hard to do since we've been long distance)? I'm just so concerned about it all, I don't want to do anything wrong and jeopardize our future together. I've received two satisfactory departures so far due to this Covid-19 situation, I'm planning on applying for a third so I have a little more legal status time (being out of status is so scary to me!) - I'm hoping this gets approved. I just feel like I'm getting myself super worked up and just need some black and white advice and help/support in general (I'm aware there are guides, I've read them but just need some human help, if that makes sense?). We consulted a lawyer a couple of months back which was really helpful, I believe we're going to talk to one again but we haven't done that yet. Hopefully this makes sense, it's a daunting process and not what we'd originally planned but damn, we just want to be together now and do everything correctly.

Thank you!

Submitting medical at filing is optional. It's actually recommended to submit it later at the I-485 interview:

You can bring the medical to the interview and the only thing regarding your marriage ist the certificate. Everything else you bring to the interview. But you need to have everything for the I-944 otherwise you risk a rejection of your application.

This might be helpful. It's AOS from K1 but there and in the other months you'll find lots of information especially for the I-944

Advice for most people is wait to do the medical until after you've submitted as the medical is only good for 12 months, and it may take more than 12 months to get your interview date for I-485. If you can afford it, I would highly recommend working with a good lawyer as it takes some of the stress out of what is already a stressful/complex process.
