The second extension letter is most likely an updated extension letter. It's not the first time they have done this. Most of the group I filed my ROC with all received updated letters giving us 18 months vs the original letter with 12 months. The whole letter is pretty useless unless you are planning on leaving the country, than you need it

It is basically the same as the original letter just has a different expiration date, they also asked us to return the original letter but most never bothered.

It was issued several months before the original receipt would expire.

Well, if they did indeed file last year, they should've received the 18 month extension letter already then (the rest of us did). It's been longer than that since they used the 12 month extension letter.

There were some question about the extension letters and people never having heard of USCIS sending new ones out. I'm just letting them know it has been done before (I got one in 2019 and many in the Feb 2018 ROC with me) and that they are not really "new" extensions but more "replacement" letters.

Yes, correct. USCIS used to send out 12 month letters, and when they extended it to 18 months, everyone who filed a i-751 or already had a pending one received the new 18 month letter. But that's a while ago and didn't happen to anyone who filed in 2019 (which is when he claimed they received their first extension letter).

Now processing times are so bad I'm kinda waiting for USCIS to start sending out 24 month extension letters instead of actually working on fixing the processing times for the better.

you know i always say, these things are so inefficient. classic example is sending these 12/18 month extension letters, and who knows might now even become 24 month extensions. if they were going to give anyone who's ROC'ing a guaranteed extension that basically extends the LPR status well into the window of being eligible to file N400  anyway, why not give 3-year conditional green cards to begin with!!! it'll be a shorter, more efficient process and a win win for all. anyway, just one of my pet peeves in this whole process.

I got a second extension letter. It was exactly as the first... Except that I had done a charge of address and this letter has the new address. The wording is the same- Extending for 18 months which means it expires the same day as the first one so pretty useless except that I now have a useless original in better physical condition than the first lol. I filed ROC in 2018 Summer so letters are both expired.

Yeah seems like they made mistakes sending out another as it does no good at all, it's just a double then.

Are you still waiting for your ROC to be approved btw? 😬

I think ROC should be eliminated completely.....Just give 10 year cards.......my statistics indicate less than 3% of ROCs are actually denied.

And lose all the revenue! I can't imagine they would. But it would certainly make sense.

They can't lose that revenue stream.....if possible they can even create a third steps (maybe call it Confirming of Condition...lol)

Wth? There is no tone, you're clearly reading things into the post that aren't there. I said "Never heard of, must be new". Let us know what the letter says, as this is new to many of us.

Is it just another copy of the letter you already received last year?

My stepdaughter received the same letter. She is a college student. The letter was just an update of the 1st  extension letter. It still said 18 months from the card expiration. It's a receipt notice. The received date is March 1, 2019. The notice date is 7-20-20. The wording was exactly the same. I thought maybe she received it just in case they ask for school. My husband did not receive one.

Yep, USCIS seems to have made a mistake sending out an exact copy of the first one, it's a useless document as it doesn't give any extra extension.
