Registering marriage in the US

Hi all,

My wife and I got married in Turkey about 6 months ago and we moved to the US with a CR-1 visa. Do we need to register our marriage in the US somehow? or is the fact that we applied for a CR-1 "Spouse of a US citizen"  considered enough for the government to know that we are mearried?

Thanks for your help.

Nope. You are all good.

(As you are probably aware, later, you will need to Remove Conditions, since you were married for less than two years when the foreign spouse entered the US using the spousal visa.)

Why this for the profile pic?  Often in movies and on TV when they show Hawaii they show this beach/view. So, instead of doing Kauai or some other locale, we decided to do here, so that whenever some show shows Hawaii and this view, we will see where we were married.

Please fill in your timeline. 6 months from marriage to visa in hand is incredibly fast.

We did DCF and we got an emergency appointment at the Ankara embassy to expedite our visa process. We got extremely lucky and the whole thing from filing to visa in hand took about a month. I don't use this site too much but here's my wife's timeline.

Wow you are lucky! I read your wife's timeline and saw in the comments that the expedite reason was COVID. What about it? I mean every country is affected so there must be something else?

My wife was living with me in Turkey and wanted to return to the US during COVID times but didn't want to leave me behind since I'm diabetic and we had no other family in Turkey. So we contacted the embassy and they made us an appointment the next week. I was in the interview alone, the embassy was empty.

That’s a nice positive story. I wish more people would read this type of story when they complain the US immigration is cruel and unfair to everyone - here we have a case where DCF was granted in a country that did not usually offer DCF, the embassy was opened exclusively for your interview and you were able to travel unhindered.

Agreed.  This was legitimately expedited.  Unfortunately, I think the reality is that people read it and expect to get the same treatment for an entirely different situation.   "We don't want to wait" is not expedite criteria, so people grasp at straws to create one.
