May be you did not see the gist of my post.  Trump has always said end to chain immigration.  One of his speech in 2017 he did said merit base immigration should only allow citizens to bring in Spouse and minors same for LPR.

Am just saying Canada and UK have merit base immigration. So this is nothing new.

I lived in the UK for 5yrs i know how merit based immigration works.

Canadian citizens, permanent residents living in Canada and Registered Indians can sponsor their parents and grandparents, but they are required to provide care and support to sponsored family members once they arrive in Canada.

Yes, except all of those have limitations. For example, the supervisa for Canada has a limit of the parent to stay for 2 years. Same with the UK. So it is like a very extended visitor visa. There does not seem to be a path for citizenship like with the US.

I agree he can sign executive order but with executive order he can’t change whole system and he can’t block pending petitions

He can stop issuance of visas.......which he has (IR-5 for example) for the rest of this year.

As I said, you are panicking over something that doesn't exist.....Family-based visas include more categories than just US citizen spouses.

This 100%. Will it affect some family-based visas? Maybe. Will it affect spousal visas? Unlikely. Either way, there is no way for us to know but I do not think worrying about spousal visas/AOS is necessary.

Yes, he did propose a plan for merit based immigration in 2017 and it got ridiculed for being "racist" because it would have stopped you from petitioning your extended family such as brothers, sisters, and their children. All the while still allowing you to to petition your children, spouses, and fiance. You could still petition your parents under the plan but not under a permanent visa.

Do you know how many threads I have seen on here asking what benefits a elderly person can get after being petitioned by their child? What about how many threads I have seen on here asking how they can get their parent health care from Medicaid because the exchange is to expensive?

Are you talking about how to deal with life after getting admitted in America? Unfortunately that is not what my comment was about and also it's none of my business. I was talking about a "legal path" to immigrate here, please do not get me involved with anything other than that. People can not afford the insurance in the US, fine I don't care.

Yes, I was referring to you because unfortunately here in the USA we don't really force the petitioner to care for those that they petitioned. So when anyone wants to try to amend that and make it easier to enforce the actual rules it gets looked at as being somehow bad for immigrants

Hi,

There are many ways to approach this...challenging?..patience wearing?..frustrating?...nerve wracking?...process.

One of the ways to spend your time is to drive yourself bonkers worrying about every rumor, every half news, hearsay, tweet, FB post, etc.

Another way is to keep up with actual news and proclamations, keep in touch with your significant other, send him/her photos of your dog getting her nose stuck in a peanut butter jar (only temporarily, she's fine)...

About the impact of these times on the spouse visa...I believe we have benefited actually.  Unfortunately at the expense of other family visas, NVC is prioritizing spouse visas, and embassies that are partially open are only doing spouse visas.  That is the current reality.

Agreed. Our documents were DQd when NVC said they were only reviewing up to March 28 at the time we submitted. I believe we were moved to the front of the line or at the very least spared an even longer wait than would have had.

The current immigration system was built based on the belief in family reunification, diversity,... If Trump wants to change it to a different system he has to strike a deal with Congress. But he wants to make a totally one-sided immigration law without involving the Dems, and apparently he failed. For the rest of his presidency, he just implements policy after policy to make the process becomes extremely complicated and life of applicants as miserable as possible. As a President, it's such a pitiful act.

Family reunification and diversity from decades ago. Which at this point in time decades later the USA is actually very diverse now than we were then. He has proposed a bill that got torpedoed by the Democrats because they wanted to many concessions even though it had a pathway for citizenship for DACA in it already. I believe you are looking at this with a very clear bias against the president because you can tell he wants to clean up the convoluted immigration system
