Hello,

Wondering if anyone has some advice. I'm currently London based and husband in US, we filed for i130 in Feb and are awaiting NOA2. VJ timeline and our immigration lawyer both say late October/ early November looks like when we might receive NOA2 (I know nothing is concrete).  I'm sure people have been through this before, but I'm debating when the right period will be to hand in my resignation at work (my notice period is 3 months). From what I have read from other UK filers now the London embassy is reopening the NVC stage, medical and interview are moving quite quickly. Any thoughts?

I haven’t seen a single “non expedited” UKer receive a visa. Can you reference? You will have 6 months to travel from the time of your visa in passport- it is not recommended To make travel arrangements (job included) until visa is in hand- there are too many factors in play in normal times never mind now. I would say give your 3 month notice when you have the visa. You can do it sooner and risk being unemployed for a long period of time if money is no issue.

I'm referring to timelines where people have now been given interview dates for July. There has been 4 or 5 in last two weeks if you filter service centre and country.

Never arrange moving (selling property, quitting job, travel tickets...) until you receive the visa. It is basic.

I believe those mostly were expedited out of NVC as reported and discussed  in the U.K. forum. Some DCF cases that were cancelled when things shut down have rebooked or interviewed recently. They never went to NVC

I don’t think anything has left NVC recently except expedited cases. The embassy is still closed except for a few mission critical cases. Things are not moving quickly and the backlog of those ahead of you and paused for three months will be tremendous when the embassy opens (if all goes to plan) on July 27.

Timeline

Thread is moved from the K-3 Process forum to the CR-1 Case Progress subforum.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We have similar timelines and I also have to give in a 3 month notice. I personally was going to wait until I get an approval and for my visa to be sent to the NVC stage before I consider handing in my notice. Even then, I am aware it may be seen as slightly optimistic. I intend to work out of a full time role if that happens so I have more flexibity (work bank/agency). Hopefully the embassy doesn't close again...

Yes you are probably right...its a tricky one as I intend to work for the same company (they won't do visa or sponsorship) but hoping once I explain my situation I'll get a bit of help with basic introductions to US market. But at the same time once I know I have a 3 month window I will be booking those flights!!! Its so hard to manage right when you can't plan/predict anything!! Are you hoping there might be some developments in Sept on NOA2?

The processing times for Nebraska has sped up some- I am hoping that means a quicker approval. I know some others that have had fast approvals but this isn't the norm and not standards to compare against.

I am hoping that I will receive an approval in the next few months but it's so difficult to keep optimistic with everything so up in the air. I also gave myself roughly a year for the whole process which I now feel may be too optimistic lol. I think everyone at work knows I will be leaving at some point. I agree, it's hard to get the timing right but from what I had read (pre COVID) it takes roughly 3 months from NVC stage to have the visa in hand. Good luck too!
