DS260 - Passport Number Question

Have few questions related to DS260 <> Passport number.

I am already approved for I-130 in beginning of July 2020. Right now I'm preparing and gathering documents for the NVC stage as I already paid the IV and AOS fees.

I had to reissue my passport in India in July 2020 because PCC (police station/post officers told me) cannot be done unless my spouse's name is on my passport. I know this is not true but they would not let me submit PCC application until I get reissue of my passport with my spouse's name (he is the US petitioner).

So finally I received my new passport (reissued) with my spouse's name on it with DIFFERENT PASSPORT NUMBER.

  1. 1. What passport number should I fill in for DS260 application? Old one? or new one?
  2. 2. Should I upload the old passport + new passport copies under NVC system?
  3. 3. Should I write explanation letter why passport number has changed?
  4. 4. Will the NVC DS260 application will proceed if the new passport number is entered? Since it was never there when I-130 application was submitted in 2019.

You have one valid passport.  Complete the DS260 present tense questions in the present tense.

Thanks for letting me know. I will try to do the NVC stuff with the latest passport unless they come back with needing old passport pictures before the DQ.

They won't.  They only want information about the passport the visa will go in.  YOUR one and only valid Indian passport. But, if you submit the old one or information about an invalid passport, they definitely WILL request the current one.  This is actually very simple stuff.

Perfect. That solves my concern with old passport.
