Hello Everyone,

With the current situation. And the lockdowns and quarantine, it is harder to meet the requirements specially meeting in person.

My fiance in the Philippines and I (petitioner) here in California haven't met yet in person that is under the 2 years requirements. We video call weekly and message everyday but I know, that doesn't count.

Now, we are planning to meet at Singapore next year around July 2021 but with the covid 19, it is harder for us because of the restrictions of countries and the quarantine time. We all know most of us only have 2 weeks paid vacation.

With that being said, is it better if we just get married than to wait for the K1 Visa

If it is better to get married, is there any online marriage that is legal that we can use for the spousal visa?

Thank you so much!

I think you will be fine to meet next year....If there is still quarantine next July, we are all in trouble.  It sounds to me like you have some time before you need to worry.

Thank you so much! Just wanna think ahead of the situation since daw really don't know what's in store for us next year either. Hopefully everything will calm down by the start of 2021.

Do you really want to spend the rest of your life and be financially responsible for someone you marry on the first meeting? That’s up to you. Pretty sure an online marriage isn’t going to cut it for the CR1. Regardless if you choose the k1 route or CR1 you will have to meet in person.

Like I said, we haven't seen each other for the "2 years requirements". ☺️

Please be nice as well. And yes, we both want to be financially responsible for each other.

We were just asking what is the best option at the moment with this virus.

Another negativity won't really help but thank you so much for your input regarding this topic.

All proxy marriage (online or video) require consummation after the fact before recognition for immigration purposes

July 2021 is a long way off.  The world will be a much different place then.

Unfortunately for your situation, meeting in person is key for either spousal visa or fiancé visa. Maybe you could research which countries currently let citizens of US and Philippines in as tourists and fulfill the meeting requirement rather than wait until July 2021. That said, it also depends on your financial situation and health concerns. So, maybe it is worthwhile to wait until your Singapore meeting in 2021.

I’m being realistic; not sure I’m seeing any negativity in my comment. Your soon to be wife won’t be financially responsible for you; you will be for her. I understand you haven’t seen each other for the 2 year requirement for k1 but whatever route you chose -k1 or CR1 you will have to meet. COVID will just make that meeting take place further out than normal (presumably). The best option is to further your relationship and meet when you can. Really- that’s your only option.

Yes.  US immigration is not fast, easy, or cheap.  Even pre-COVID.  Most people here have been through long periods of time without their partners.

Yes, financially we are saving up enough money for everything at the moment since the lockdown on both countries affected our saving for these and the original plan was to meet late this year. I have my daughter with me that's why we can't take the risk of going out of the country to meet this year with covid at the moment.

Hopefully when we push SG on July 2021 which we already have planned out, there is some sort of ease on Covid already.

I will be responsible for him. I know the factors and stuff with this. And it's not the first meeting. It is the first meeting for the "2 years requirements". We have known each other since HS and we just realized that we are more then bestfriends after a few years on failed relationships. Perhaps that would clear up the "1ts meeting marriage" 😅

My friend, a U.S. citizen divorced with the father of her child for 20+ years hasn’t seen him for that long also. Yet they kept contact and good relationship through all those years via phone calls. Her ex-husband lived in Uzbekistan. When they decided to re-unite, she filed for K-1 visa for him. Her application was denied on the basis that the 2 year meeting requirement had not been met.

Doesn't change the issue that you are not yet eligible to petition for him

YMMV
