Medical - query on mental health

I am not having a good time.

I came off sertraline, for anxiety, in January.

I was ok for a few months but we have some marital issues, I’ve worked through the whole lockdown, other child related issues and I need to see the dr as I’m not coping very well. I’ve tried to wait it out but I know I need to go back on the sertraline for 6 mths at least.

as a mental health issue is this likely to cause issues at the medical???

obviously there’s no history of self harm/suicidal thoughts etc it’s purely stress and anxiety.

I wouldn't anticipate any issues at the medical based on what you have posted......From personal experience, I can testify that some of those SSRIs are extremely difficult to discontinue.   Luckily, I was able to endure the extreme anxiety of stopping them until the withdrawal effects subsided.  Hang in there....and be careful......

Take a note from your doctor stating you have never been a threat to yourself or others and he does not anticipate you becoming so. And a short description of how long you have been treated, with what, etc.

So long as you include the note as mentioned by Wuozopo, you'll be fine.

I used to have a bit of anxiety and depression and was taking an antidepressant when I went for my medical in London. It was briefly raised by the doctor but it seemed to be in more of a chit-chat way, as in ''I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you're feeling better now'', and absolutely not in a ''let me shine a big light on you and try to gauge how crazy you are''.

Depression and anxiety is incredibly common these days, nobody bats an eyelid now. You will need that note though. No need to take it to heart or get stressed out or upset about it, just look at it as another wee task to check off your list.  🙂

Yes I think so. Is the medication name and dosage listed anywhere, like maybe added to your health care summary?  I think they will want to know what meds you take.

So on my GP summary it had “overdose” in 10 and 15 years ago. At the medical they said that I I needed a letter from my GP To confirm that I am not a danger to myself or others and am mentally stable. I just got a letter privately from my therapist to say exactly. My therapist did fluff it up but the message was there. Also went to a private psychologist who did the some tests and came to the same conclusion in a report. Both letters were accepted and my medical was submitted to the embassy.

I think yours will be okay because it’s from your GP and states what it needs to states.
