Hello August filers. I applied late August and found out a very close relative of mine is sick/dying and I will have to travel to Sweden for appx 2 months at a time a few times, I really don't know. So I am now in fear of not getting approved 😏 my family is of course more important but it still sucks. It's a lot of money that we're paying. Mine says it might take 13 months , filing from Miami. Cross your fingers for me 🙄

Hi all, I just saw an update on my online account saying they are able to reuse previous biometrics. I am honestly quite surprised at how quickly I got the notice!

Filed the application online on 8/31/20, NOA received in mail on 9/5/20, and the Biometric Resue notice (dated 9/4/20) appeared online on 9/8/20.

My wife just submitted the N-400 on 8/24/20 and the account updated the next day with estimated completion time June 2021.  Also, still waiting since  April 5, 2019 on status of scheduling an interview for I-751 (January 2019 filer, no RFEs), so with any luck the N-400 application will get things moving and she'll just have a joint interview.  The inefficiency of all of this is exhausting.image.png.7d030c6fc604aae7f291f7a4068fbbb0.png

Hello Karen&Marelle!

I hope you’re doing great today! I just filed my N-400 yesterday and I too, have a pending I-751 interview. Have you heard anything from them yet about the I-751? You mentioned about the joint interview for both case (I-751 and N-400), is that automatically? Or do you have to request that? Let me know. Thanks.

Hi there.  Since my last post the USCIS account has not changed - except now instead of 'estimated wait time' it says, 'we're taking longer than normal to process your case'.  I'm so annoyed (as always with this process).  I've seen others who filed their N-400 after us, and they already have biometrics appts, or updates.  USCIS has zero protocol for timelines and processing cases in any logical order.  I have seen on some threads here that some people have gotten combined I-751 and N-400 interviews, but clearly there is no real pattern that USCIS follows.  I also called in early August to get call back for our I-751 case which is outside normal processing (filed January 2019, was ready for interview as of April 2019...NO UPDATES), and of course haven't gotten a call back.  I'll be calling today with a service request number for previous call and next step is calling our congress reps.

I think you should be fine to travel with a pending N400. I don't think your travel can be held against you so long as you don't change permanent residence. And it sounds like you're not going to be staying outside of the US for more than a few months at a time, so I think you're good to go. Generally, don't leave the US for longer than 6 months at a time (preferably fewer than 6 months per year) and you must be physically present in the US for 30 months in the 5 years before N400 (or 18 months in the 3 years before N400 if it's based on marriage). In other words, just don't do anything that will make them presume you've disrupted your permanent residence.

Of course, I'm saying all this to reassure you, but you should also make sure to do the research about what's required for permanent residents and N400. To me it sounds like you'll be fine.
