Well I am not sure exactly why... however, I am under the assumption that my fiancé was placed in administrative processing for so long due to his ethnicity and religion. He is originally from Afghanistan and has traveled a couple of times to Pakistan. They gave him the form DS 5535 after his interview which asks about his past travel information, his background, where he has worked and lived, his family background etc.

We sent that back to them a week after his interview and ever since then he has been in administrative processing unfortunately.

I’m sorry you have to go through this. While rather rare for Germany, AP is a “normal” process for Pakistan and MENA countries. Especially for Pakistan AP takes from months, to years.

In addition, K1s are affected by the travel ban so it’s unliky that embassies will continue processing those in the countries affected, until the ban gets lifted :(

Thank you! I am sorry for anyone having to go through this as it is very mind and heart draining. It’s hard for all couples but then when there are kids involved it gets even harder.
And yes you are right, AP for some people/countries can take up to years. It’s been over 16 months for us and I have yet to hear anything from them. I am actually seriously thinking about filing for a writ of mandamus. It has become too much for us. I was thinking of moving to Germany until my fiancé can come to the states. However, that is also very difficult because Germany has its own rules for people wanting to reside there. I was just there the beginning of this year till May of this year and things became very difficult as me and my son were unable to see the doctors and our visa was expiring there so we basically had to leave the country and then go back to it.
I honestly do not even know what to do anymore...

I think if you get married in Germany your then spouse can file your papers and you can stay immediately. I happen to be German (my husband is Iraqi) and while I don’t know the exact details about the process there, I recall that my brother found it fairly hassle free to get permanent residency for his foreign wife.

What do you mean when you say that you were not able to see a doctor? During my last extended stay I did - since I’m not living in Germany I don’t have health insurance there - and ended up paying a lot less out of pocket than usual co-pay with insurance in the US.

Well if we get married in Germany then we would have to stop the k1 visa and start the spousal visa which would be all over again. But we were seriously thinking of doing that while I was there this time. Now we are confused... should we wait a little longer for the k1 visa since we’ve waited for 16 months or should we just get married in Germany  and start the process all over again...

if you want to live in the US it’s probably faster to just wait at this point. My suggestion above was regarding your thoughts of staying in Germany :)

Have you checked in with the embassy every now and then?

That’s the problem right now. We do not know how much longer we will have to wait since this whole covid19 mess, things have gotten worse and have no idea how much longer we will be waiting... so right now all I can do is pray and hope for the best like I have been doing for over a year now.

Just curious... Did they post this on website or Twitter or where?

Wondering where to "officially" look for other embassy reopenings

I think it's not real. I don't see any official update. What I do now it's that the Embassy in Jordan is starting to process K1 Visa. They made it official on the website

Well at least there is some movement on VISAs in the middle East. I suppose that is good news in a way, but not the embassy I'm waiting for of course.

I still don't understand why we are seeing some places processing one type of visa and others doin different... Or perhaps they aren't really saying all the visas they are processing.

Idk this whole thing makes me insane.

I can't even get a visitor visa for my husband like so many other ppl on VJ. Now I just heard Trump in an interview saying he is going to fix immigration in the next 2 weeks..... Whatever that means. I'm sure nothing good.
