White House: ‘Science Should Not Stand in the Way’ of School Openings

You're conflating a superintendent's stated policy with the union policy of teachers. If teachers don't work, what does the superintendent do? Not difficult math, seeing this in other states as well, and the consequences are remarkably easy to grasp.

Do you disagree that the policy paper does not say that schools will not be reopened unless the points made in the paper are met? That is my question. I'm not conflating anything. I think the Daily Wire piece is inaccurate and I believe it is important to make that clear.

Also, when there was a teachers strike here the other year, school continued. In a more normal time, a strike did not impede classroom instruction.

The teachers are willing and eager to teach, but not in an environment the health department is telling them is unsafe for both them and many of their children. Teaching will be remote this fall. It isn't ideal but putting the health of educators and some -- not all -- children at risk is more important in the short term.

All I can do is say what I am observing close to these events. This is in my county and the decision reflects what this county is prioritizing in terms of health. My school district is taking a similar stance.

Their policies are directly a result of the unions, but also just text. I believe I saw an interview on Laura with one of those SI's where they tried to be subtle in pointing out that there's no functional way to open schools, regardless of their stated policy (which is why the SI's stated policy is functionally useless here), with the demands teachers have. I mean, it's something we knew already. Adding #### like "defund the police" has what to do with either health or education? Nothing. It's political hostage, and if I were in charge we'd be delaying the opening of school until October while we fire all our teachers participating in this bad faith methodology of bargaining and start going on a hiring blitz.

It is a position paper put out by the union.  I assume these are the desires of said union and maybe it won’t affect the reopening of schools,  but it may become a factor at contract time.

They're talking about refusing to work. It's more than that.

Say you were a project manager for a project slated to start in late August, the team you're overseeing are union hires, not contractors, threatening not to work, largely because they don't want to, which is obvious by the ridiculously lofty unrelated demands they're making. You have no real control over the scope, costs, nor time, even though its your job. If you commit to something anyways, unequivocally, it's on your head because you can't meet any deliverables. So, you have no choice but to can the project. It's elementary that a SI just kills the re-openings. They're managing the schools and their hands are utterly tied, so the SI "plans" are utterly meaningless when all elements in the equation, from executives in elected government, to people they need to actually do the work, are working against them.

At "contract time", the schools never matter in state discussions. Especially in states like CA, the districts are first on the chopping block, despite the language of the state constitution saying schools should be around last. They give as much a #### about schools as they do infrastructure.

A Union Man's Dog

Four workers were discussing how smart their dogs were.  The first worker was an engineer, who said that his dog could do math with calculators.  His dog was named T-Square, and the engineer told him to get some paper and draw a square, a circle, and a triangle, which the dog did with no sweat.  The accountant claimed that his dog was smarter.  His dog was named Sliderule.  The accountant told him to fetch a dozen cookies, bring them back, and divide them into piles of three, which the dog did with no problem.  The chemist said that that was good, but he believed his dog to be even smarter.  His dog was named Measure.  The chemist told him to get a quart of milk and pour seven ounces into a ten-ounce glass.  The dog did this with no problem.

All three men agreed that this was very good and that their dogs were equally smart.  They all turned to the union member and asked, "What can your dog do?"  The union member called his dog, whose name was Coffeebreak, and said, "Show the fellows what you can do."  Coffeebreak went over and ate the cookies, drank the milk, pooped on the paper, humped the other three dogs and claimed that he injured his back while doing so, filed a grievance for unsafe working conditions, applied for Worker's Compensation, and left for home on paid Sick Leave.

What happened the next day when Coffeebreak received a lawsuit from the three dogs he humped?
