Hi everyone,

I will be arriving at the Manila airport at 10:30PM. My 23 year old fiance and her 21 year old brother plan on meeting meeting me when I arrive. My fiance and I are a little concerned about safety that late at night. What precautions can we take and what advice do you have for us to maintain our safety.

My parents neighbor from Phils told me not to take a taxi at that time of night, but I don't think we have a choice. Surely the three of us won't have a problem. What are your thoughts?

Kevin

First thing is to dress "low key" especially if you are puti.

Don't mess with the regular cab drivers no matter what time of day it is if you are by yourself.

If you do don't let the driver use his cellphone whether you are with your lady or not!

Best bet is to have your fiancee get a GOOD hotel and have her pick you up with the hotel transportation.

Bayview ain't much! Forget the Swagman.

Heck you're on vacation and why not go as first class as you can.

Get an extra room for brother naman!

They may both end up in it but who knows?

My fiancee was planning on sleeping on the couch my first trip!

We still laugh about it!!

:innocent:

Actually I don't consider this trip a vacation. Its more of a final leg on a long quest. My vacation was last November when I spent 15 days with her at her grandparents and parents houses.

I'm not willing to spend much on a hotel per night at this point. Since my fiance lived in Mindanao and her parents live in Samar its been very expensive these past few months with all the traveling involved to get the requirements for the visa. We also have alot of wedding expenses not to mention the airline tickets.

At the moment we are thinking about staying at the Boulevard Mansion for about 1850P per night. I'm going to have my fiance make arrangements at whatever hotel we choose since I'm told the "local rate" will be better than what I am charged. My travel agent who is from Phils told me that.

Any thoughts on our choice of hotel?

Kevin

Taking the airport coupon service is safe. Their drivers won't mess up with the passengers, whether locals or tourists. The company's franchise with the airport is at stake, so employers make sure that they have 'clean' people for their drivers. If you're going to ask to be driven to Makati, you won't have to pay more than 500 pesos. Our airports here are pretty safe, if somebody would give your fiancee a hard time, our airport police and security guards are very visible, plus there are still lots of people at the airport by then so there's nothing to worry about.

If you need to ask anything more just message me, I pretty much know our airports here from the inside.

Is it part of the Mansion Group? My fiance and his family usually stays at Gilarmi, part of the mansion group. If they have the same property management group, then i guess it's also going to be nice.

Good Lord, the hotel prices u folks are quoting are outrageous! LOL, good thing I made friends with a gal in the service industry before my trip! I stayed at the Astor Holiday Inn Makati- a great hotel with full buffet breakfast for $50/night. Regular price is twice that, but still a deal compared with what's been quoted here... not all of us are loaded, ya know!

you can arrange with the hotel to be met by their car. your fiancee and her brother could go with the hotel's driver. believe me, it is safer that way.

I paid about $40 a night for my wife to stay at the Bayview and my friend pays even less to stay at the Swagman.

I've flown into Manila twice at night (11pm) and my fiance met me both times, the first time she had a girlfriend with her, the second time she came alone. We took a taxi from the airport (find one with a label that says "meter sealed and tested"). We stayed at the City State Towers in Ermita. It is one block from the Baywalk and close to the Embassy, also it is 2 blocks from the Robinson's mall! I thought the price was reasonable (1900php per night) the room was clean and comfortable...breakfast is included in the rate for the occupants of the room.

My third trip I flew into Manila in the morning and I must say I prefer it, but if you have to arrive at night you need not worry too much there is security everywhere at the airport (but always be cautious!). Just remember if you want convenience you will pay for it, in my case we opted to save money (and my fiance is familiar with Metro Manila, but does not live there).
