Well, it's not claptrap, but feel free to stick your head in the sand and make fun of it if you so choose.

A person that generally believes in said claptrap would say that it isn't claptrap, wouldn't they? I mean that's the purpose of the conspiracy, to keep it going... and keep people hooked with the next thing. This stuff is getting more and more fanciful.

I'll be sure and tell my cop buddies that you said they investigated and busted the wrong people the past few years.  Thank you for clearing that up.

Are those cop buddies specifically investigating child-sized cabinets and cabals from Wayfair? I have a feeling they are not, and if they are, I have concerns.

There was an article about weird pricing on Amazon in Vox, I think, last year. I'll find it for you this morning. Yes, it was sourced, and no, it didn't involve children in cabinets.

It's not required, but otherwise you are asking us to have a discussion about child trafficking on Amazon based on what?

Okay, I didn't find that Vox piece yet but this should explain a lot of what is going on in this conversation right now: https://fortune.com/2020/07/14/wayfair-cabinet-conspiracy-algorithm-amazon-pricing-ecommerce/

Quote

Cabinets priced as high as $14,500 through online furniture seller Wayfair recently set off the alarm bells for some shoppers. Were they really worth that much when other cabinets cost so much less?

The curious cabinets became the subject of a bizarre conspiracy theory started by an anonymous Reddit user. The poster baselessly speculated that the cabinets were evidence of child trafficking, in part because some of the cabinets shared names with missing children.

...

One explanation for some of the crazy prices you’ll see online is that when computers are programmed to compete with each other, things can get strange.

That’s how Amazon wound up offering a $24 million textbook in 2011. Two third-party sellers, both apparently using automated pricing technology, were offering the book. The two programs responded to each other’s pricing changes, both steadily adjusting prices upwards. Someone eventually noticed, but if the person hadn’t, the algorithms could have kept at it until the book was priced in the billions of dollars.

Not all algorithms are simply competitive, though. Sometimes they're influenced by other factors, including inventory levels. According to Patrick Campbell, cofounder of pricing consultancy ProfitWell, algorithmic prices for particular products can “go a little nutty" thanks to factors including low stock at a supplier.

Discussing it as a conspiracy theory makes sense. I don't know that it makes sense to assert anything beyond that, although it certainly is possible. I once had several errors listed on eBay, including a bike listed for 100000. It resolved when I bought a new keyboard where the decimal key actually worked.

Do you report that Davie guy from 33314 in the original image? It says the pillow is being delivered to him.

There's tons of debunking articles, and you might notice based on the amazon reviews that this pillow has been used as an 'excuse' in a variety of conspiracies with similar notes depending on the year. But anyway, you might wonder why a pillow would be so expensive. I mean look for the said pillow made from Eiderdown on many websites over the years and you'll see it fetching prices in the thousands. Why? Because it's exceedingly rare, a protected species that must be obtained in a specific way, and apparently very lovey. Like the sort of luxury that only a obscenely rich could afford. https://pricetaganalysis.com/2018/01/21/the-cost-of-buying-eiderdown/

Its like making a pillow out of ivory, wrapped in solid gold, and kissed by the pope, and autographed by Babe Ruth risen from the grave with Elvis. Layla, do you think your ex might be game for buying one and see if he gets any surprises in the box? :P

You know, Voldy DID reach out to me yesterday to ask what the quarantine rules were in the UK (because googling it for himself is beneath both him and his assistant? I think he needs another wife, stat). Perhaps I will encourage him to enquire if this pillow is sufficient for his golden locks to rest on. :D

you should be more inclined to get one for lord alex, who should rest his weary brow in stately fashion.

I think he'd put it after the $700 boots and the $2000 drum machine he's asked me to buy him, because if I buy him these things he is enabling me as a woman to break free from the shackles of gender expectations and be the spoiler, not the spoilee. It was a decent argument, but I told him no.

The comments in the reviews are actually pretty funny.

I liked them, but what I also liked about the reviews:
