I was unware there was an anti-New York bias. What's the bias?

Didn't you notice how many people here hate New York?

Seriously? I thought they just didn't want to live there.

And why do you suppose that is?

Maybe they don't have enough money? ;)

Maybe so, but would they vote for a New Yorker who has $15-20 billion in the bank?

Americans have not really elected many recent presidents that were "of the people" in that they came from less than millions. I don't see why billions should be a problem. Also, Americans seem to really respect rich people. I think it's in the culture.

given your rant about it, such may well be the case. so why are you talking about those don't want to live in ny don't make enough money when you surely fit into that category?

I think whatever anti-New York bias he might face (it does exist, 'liberal coastal elites' = 'whining about New York') would be mitigated by the fact that both Clinton and Giuliani are running out of New York, too.

What?

I don't know what you're getting at, but it amuses me to no end how you presume to know so much about my financial background and situation. Silver spoon? Destitute? Who knows!

Maybe, but they certainly don't represent the stereotypes the way he would. Clinton especially doesn't have New Yorkness tied to her image. I think he would still stand out.

"Religion may be very important in Bloomberg's case because New York represents

Jewishness to a lot of people..."

It does? That's definitely not the first thing I think of when I think of NY.

I don't understand how being from NYC would hurt him anymore than being from the south would hurt a candidate (apparently not at all).

Being from the South or the West helps candidates. Look at the last few Presidents. That's why Bush pretends to be from Texas. It makes them look more like a man you could have a steak with, because there's a perception that everyone in New England is rich and out of touch. Even if the candidate from the South is richer and of family wealth and a layabout and the northerner is a small businessman.

Perceptions are stupid, but you go to the polls with the electorate you have.

Alex, maybe you're so destitute that you had to sell your silver spoon.

Well....they say there are more Jews in New York than in Tel-Aviv :D
Eh, Wiki (true by city proper, not metro)
The New York metropolitan area is home to the largest Jewish population in the world outside Israel. New York's Jewish population in 2001 was approximately 1.97 million, 1.4 million more than in Jerusalem but 600,000 less than in Tel Aviv;
