Who else met their fiance in person - not online first?

Hi! I just submitted my I-129F forms today. So excited!

In my research, I found quite a bit of US Citizens who met their fiance(e)s online. I actually met mine in person. He was working onboard a cruise ship and I was a passenger. :)

I submitted as much evidence as possible of this meeting. I included my cruise booking confirmation, my cruise ship card, his contract, my flight info, a receipt from a scooter shop we went to together, and conversations from Facebook with date stamps from the ship. We did not have any photos together, but I submitted photos I took of him.  Hopefully this will be enough evidence.

That's awesome! We only had the one meeting. We attempted six other meetings but lots of cancellations with travel restrictions. Hoping it won't be a red flag. :)

I only met my fiancée once before we got engaged. We video chatted daily for 6 months beforehand. We had no issues with 129f approval.

Thank you for sharing! 🥰 Glad to hear!

I was going to submit a secondary cover letter showing cancelled attempted meetings, but figured that was overkill and not what they were asking for.

Things might be different with the pandemic as far as photos, but generally they like to see atleast some photos together. Hopefully you don’t get a RFE

I know, I kind of figured as much 😕

When we met, we didn't know we were going to date. Lol! Plus he was working on board.I did take a few photos OF him but not any of us together. If they ask for an RFE, I don't have any additional photos to give them since we just didn't take any. I will see how it goes.

I have never seen anyone get an RFE for lack of photos, since they’re not a requirement.

The burden is to provide evidence of the required one meeting during the two years prior to submitting the petition.  Photos do not provide this in most cases.

OP, we did not send any photos.  No RFEs.

My fiancé is from Panama. I met her when she was living in the states. I met her at a bar on st Patrick’s day parade in Scranton Pennsylvania. We dated for a few months and she even moved in with me for a month until she had to leave. In August it will be a year since she went back. Our case is still stuck at the NVC.  We are still going strong tho. If I knew this pandemic was going happen and mess everything up I would have did things differently.

Wow! Love this story. Glad to hear you guys are still going strong. There's no way any of us could have predicted this! I'm sure its teaching you lots of patience. Were you able to visit Panama at all before travel restrictions?

Thank you for sharing! I suppose there is no way of knowing unless I get an RFE, which then will have to figure out some other forms of evidence. I submitted as much as I could think of with our unplanned meeting lol.

Oh yea it’s definitely testing my patience. Long distance relationships are tough as hell haha but yes I visited Panama last September and it was awesome. I met her family and they showed me around Panama. It was real nice.

That sounds amazing! Best of luck to you both and hopefully it gets approved soon! If you could do it again, would you go the CR-1 route? 💗 I'm at the very beginning of the process so I know I will need a lot of patience as well. lol

I volunteered my time for a month in Morocco working with handicapped kids and a woman i worked with took me home for dinner just before i left and i was introduced to the men eating in the other room.   I left the next day for home and at Charles de Gaule got delayed for an ice storm .  2 men there turned out to be my husband and a brother and bought me food as the ATM's were not working.  A couple of emails later from the brother he said my husband was interested in talking to me on Yahoo and that was more than 12 years ago /  now married 10..   nothing wrong with meeting online but some rush a relationship and don't take time to really know each other.  but that can be true of even 2 teens dating here in the USA  who are trying to grow up too fast
