Yes, it's all Trump's fault.  You win the internetz.

Perhaps you should study up on who ended federal funding for gain-of-function studies, with particular concern rising about influenza, SARS, and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS).

Hint: it wasn't the current administration.

Both HIV and covid are pandemics.  Both kill people.  The point is not about how they are spread, but about the differing reactions to both diseases.

may be you slept through the 80's. HIV did not spread through air. Perhaps a revision of your 7th grade science books will tell you.  Sure the reaction is different but who knew the Orange would handle it like this. everything the organe puts his fingers on is a disaster.

duh

If you really want us to be clear, I've got bad news for you..

When the administration was trying to impose travel bans, state/local leaders were busy calling Trump racist, and even federal Dem House reps were promoting behavior conducive to viral spread telling people to go on down and party in Chinatown. This was at the time local health officials said masks don't work. Fast forward a few months and where has that gone?

But I totally get the narrative some need to push -- orange man bad. Just don't be shocked when others realize that this nonsense has zero to do with health and all to do with the politics of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

well with the old geezos on both sides of aisle need to be smoke for the country to move forward. too much politics too less doing anything has become the norm

duh

Just Ignore the aids thing. I promise you he knows better

So specifically what should Trump have done differently.  You do recall the lashing he took for acting early in some areas.

It's great. We are in Zanzibar right now and we are the only two people in the whole resort. Our beach is like a private beach. We have a private chef and our own butler. Truly one of the best vacations ever (I would say tied with the Galapagos). And yeah we never really get close to people either so this has not been that different.

Awesome for you two, enjoy!  Tell K we said hi.  I miss her saucy FB posts and messages.  Glad you are enjoying life while the sky falls over here.

Have a friend who has traveled all over Europe the past couple of months.  Went to the Coliseum in Rome, said there was no line, and he was the only Ameican there.  Ditto renting  boats on the canals.  Zero gondola traffic all day.

Yes, HIV is MUCH harder to contract than covid.  And yet, it kills more people... weird how thay works, huh?

Trump isn't responsible for my health.  If you're blaming him for YOUR health, perhaps you need to re-evaluate your life.  Just sayin'.

Florida Is A Case Study In Media-Induced COVID-19 Panic

I & I Editorial Board - July 27, 2020

What do all these news accounts have in common?

"Florida Sets Yet Another Coronavirus Record: 173 Deaths In A Day."

"A record 173 Floridians died from the virus Thursday, an average of more than one every eight minutes."

"The 134 new confirmed deaths is the second-largest increase on record, coming five days after the largest one-day jump of 156 last week."

"COVID-19 has ravaged Florida, with more than 237,000 people testing positive and 2,013 dying from the virus in July alone."

So what characteristic do all of the reports share? They are all false.  [...]

Death rate for elder is 15~36%, depending where you are. That is much, much larger than death rate of elders by influeza, which is less than 1 %.

Also, while death rate for young adults and children has remained low, I have seen a number of people who "recovered" but still suffer from month long post-recovery symptoms like loss of smell, taste and rough breathing.

I posted about this a few days back.  Someone was claiming 173 deaths for 7/23 around noon on that date.  Today, the death toll for 7/23 remains at 54.

The claims are all over the place, and it's hard to know what is correct.  The easiest thing to do is believe the worst possible scenario I guess.

And as for the subject of false positives, and those here mocking my statements as untrue, just talked to a friend in Nashville about her experience... she got a letter from the TN DOH proclaiming her test results as negative.  Great news from the DOH, eh?  Turns out she never got tested.  But some lab near her sure did turn in her info as if she did.  I wonder if said lab will also get paid for her "test"?

Looking at the statistics cited above for FL:

Latest: +9344 cases, +77 deaths --- 0.8% death (mortality) rate

Total cases: 434,000, total deaths 5853 -- 1.3% death rate

ICU is at 75.7% utilization

Massive improvement.

What amuses me is sites like this:

https://covidactnow.org/us/fl/?s=775136

TvbPaFh.png

If you listened to this number juggling "estimations" hysteria peddling, you'd be under the impression that the ICU's are completely full the entire month, what a scary looking graph! Of course, anyone paying attention to what the hospitals themselves are reporting, as shown in my FL ICU link, not a single hospital is anywhere near 100% capacity, especially the largest, most watched ones, which I've noticed tend not to go over 90%. In any environment, business or health, this is an efficient metric, and a good sign that the hospitals can handle a serious influx, especially because knowledge/treatment is better, which helps that curve.

Anyone not peddling this fearmongering can actually get into the details of this rather than just post scary looking graphs without any context.

It is the "initial Total"  for 23 Jul. Go back and read the fine print on your little dash board thingy.

Here is the press release from the Dept of Health.http://www.floridahealth.gov/newsroom/2020/07/072320-1159-covid19.pr.html

The Florida dept of health reported 77 new cases yesterday ----http://www.floridahealth.gov/newsroom/2020/07/072620-1202-covid19.pr.html

But if you over over the bar chart, that I am guessing you are pulling your number for it shows 7 for yesterday

""""""""The Deaths by Day chart shows the total number of Florida residents with confirmed COVID-19 that died on each calendar day (12:00 AM - 11:59 PM). Death data often has significant delays in reporting, so data within the past two weeks will be updated frequently."""""

Will be sure to let her know. Went diving today and it was just me and a couple of Swedish girls. Then there was one other family snorkeling. It will be so disappointing to go back to travel as usual post covid.
