Hi,

I need to bring English translation of some documents to the embassy in Paris for my interview. Do you know what certified translation means for them ? Can anyone fluent in English and French translate it for me with a statement that this person translated to the best of its knowledge ? Or do I have to contact a certified translator by the court of Justice ?

Thank you all

It means the person that translated the document must certify that they are capable of translating it. Meaning, proficient in both languages, sign and date it.

It's not expensive to use use an online company and you can have it ready within 2 days or so. Most of them include certificate of accuracy in the price.

It does not need to be notarized.

I'm fluent in English, but I couldn't do it.  Anyone fluent in both languages can do it....but it must include the required certification statement

Thanks man, that's what I found so far yes, they seem content with this. Another question though: in French institution, papers are declared to be valid only if they are 3 month old maximum (older is not considered good). But As I plan to bring documents from the time I filed with NVC to the interview, will they hold that against me as a problem ? I do not have the time to order new certificates and other things, my interview is the 15th of July 2020...

To my knowledge, the only documents which could expire are the police certificate and the medical exam. But if they are within 6 months, they will be OK, imo.

Note that although you have the correct generic answer regarding who can translate but the real answer depends on which language is being translated.

If the document is already in French and you are interviewing in Paris, no translation is needed.

If the document is Chinese, for example, it must be translated by an official Notary (a Chinese Government Agency) to be accepted.

So, in which language is the document(s) now?

Someone here already showed you how to certify that the translation is accurate. I translated my own documents both at USCIS and NVC and everything was accepted with no problem. I highly recommend saving money, time and translating yourself if you want.

Then none of them need translation at all when interviewing in Paris.

Hey there ! In France every time you ask for an official document they can provide you a official translation and it's free. I did it for my birth certificate and police record it was really convinient.
