One positive sign is that Canada is being super strict in trying to contain the spread of the virus, and it is working, so the likelihood of Montreal opening up again is better than embassies/consulates in many countries, like Brazil, where the virus is spreading very quickly right now.  So that's a positive for Canada, for what it's worth.  I always say plan for the worst, hope for the best, then you won't be too disappointed if the interview is scheduled for late next year or even 2022.  Until there's an effective vaccine, things will continue to be very uncertain and predictions will vary widely depending on who you talk to.  Good luck!

True! According to DOS: bureau of consular affairs on their Facebook page, they mentioned local conditions will influence the resumption of normal services. So being in canada people are more likely to see embassy opening before other countries. Fingers crossed!

I didn’t think Montreal was 6-8 month wait, everyone else I seen only waited 4 months at the longest most got an interview within 2-3 months of their NOA2, but even still I think you’re right and  next year is more realistic.

Montreal was a 6 week from submitting P3 to scheduling interview before covid, for K1 visa interviews. Spousal visas are a different timeline.

Just got DQ'ed yesterday and in a long line of people waiting at MTL. I flew out from Vancouver to NYC yesterday and to my surprise during my layover in Seattle, most of the businesses were open. I hope with the virus cases pretty much contained in Canada, they can resume the interviews.

I hope since other categories such as employment visas put on hold, they can focus on reducing backlog for CR1/IR1 and K1. But again that's a wishful thinking.

Could suspension of most immigrant and non-immigrant visa categories speed up spousal visa interview scheduling and processing?

I am guessing that MTL consulate will have enough space and time to clear backlog of pending interview and to schedule new interview. Because most immigrant visa categories (with the exception of IR-1,IR-2,CR-1,CR-2) as well as the non-immigrant visa categories are suspended through December 31, 2020.

I know it’s probably a long shot to get an interview this year, nobody has anymore information then I do about when the embassies will openBut should i still plan to get my interview by then end of this year or should I plan for next year? This all very much sucks and is extremely sad, just wondering everyone else opinions. 😬

Did anyone hear anything after twitter post from travel state saying embassies open July 15? There hasn’t been any more information.. getting a bit anxious been waiting for ir1 interview since December in montreal

Great, canada is already in a pretty safe and good condition nationally and locally. We’re optimistic they’ll be back sooner than we thought.

Have not heard anything else after this post :(

This is correct. I think the former poster was talking about spousal visas (CR-1). K-1 interviews usually didn't take as long pre-Covid and I saw people getting interviews on average 2 months maybe 3 months max after submitting P3

We've been waiting since December (18th) for an interview in Montreal too. Our interviews would have been in May had they not shut down. The interviews that were cancelled were for people who were DQ up to December 16th so once they reschedule them we'll both be in the next batch of interview dates they send out :) Unfortunately I don't have an update for when they'll reopen.

Lol, that's my tweet asking this morning because I didn't see an update! But yes, I'm assuming its a no (for today at least)

It's really annoying honestly, I don't see why they can't with Canada/Quebec doing well concerning covid numbers. All I wanted was a yes or no >.>
