Yes my fiancé is the one who called the visa contact center this afternoon and they told him they cancelled all August interviews and just got the information a few minutes ago that they won’t reopen in August. It was super disheartening to hear and I cried for a good hour. Hopefully what @Alexag said about the congressman staffer is true and they somehow reopen.

Guys, whats your guess how many k1 and cr1 waiting for to have the interview..... people that had their files at Montreal before they closed, we dont count people that got approved after March 2020. I am just wondering 😭

You can take a look at the State Departments Statistics for Immigrant and Non-Immigrant visa issuance if you want to try and estimate a little. It looks like Montreal was getting through roughly 90 CR/IR-1s and 90 K-1s a month before this happened.

someone here said their congressman staffer talked to Montreal and they had confirmed a possible August start date so it just seems like there's no communication between places or even employees, some of they say august and some say they don't know

I just hope it’s true. They keep extending the dates and it’s so disheartening.

It makes so much sense to have interviews not only in Montreal when they are open! For those who are waiting to book an interview do you guys see only Montreal as an option on your https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ca/iv account for interview or other embassies too?

Montreal consulate is the place for all immigration interview. I heard they changed some jurisdiction, so no IV interview any other embassies...

Each country at most one post to handle any immigrant (or K) visas. These are handled by a separate unit, so there isn't even anybody at the other posts to conduct the interviews or process the paperwork.

Personally  I see 2 options for myself. The Embassy closer to my address and Montreal.

Is it Vancouver? Because Vancouver hasn't processed K1s since 2016, and they aren't going to start again.

How difficult can it be to temporarily set up interviews in Vancouver to get through the backlog?

You need to move COs and support staff (along with their families, possibly). Find room for them. Transfer cases. Coordinate with NVC and applicants. And it would be a zero sum process since it's just moving staff from one area to another...less cases could be handled at Montreal as a result.

To actually handle more cases, they need more immigrant visa unit staff and support resources. You can't just reassign a bunch of NIV COs and staff already at Vancouver...they are not qualified to adjudicate immigrant visa cases. There are vastly different requirements between most NIVs and most IVs. They don't typically assess the validity of marriages (both legally and in terms of bona fides), PCCs (and what qualifies as a CIMT or not), medical results, etc.

I think that is what I heard. Thank you for explanation.

It’s been changed since 2016?

I’m on the road right now so I can’t confirm, but they had been consolidating to at most one location per country around that time. I can’t recall the specifics for Canada off the top of my head though, sorry.
