Then why do they have this field in I-130?

To match the application to the service center that has your state and district. Would be silly to live in TX and get interviewed in Montana wouldn't it.

Service center and local field offices are two very different things

YMMV

So they know where to interview you. There are a handful of service centers and a couple hundred+ field offices.

FYI, that section is not to process i130. You’ll fill that portion only if the beneficiary is in the US and will do AOS. If the beneficiary is abroad and is seeking a visa and you fill that info, you will be paying another ~$500 and tons on months of wait just to have the approved i130 sent to NVC.

Spouse:

It is local office, not service centers. Don’t try to outsmart processing time.

While filing an I-130, F2A can we choose the service center ourselves or they will assign in any other basis?  Please share your ideas.

No way to do that.

I vaguely remember a VJ member attempted to send their package to a service center instead of the Lockbox. It was promptly returned to them untouched a couple of weeks later. Unless you want your package delayed because it is held up being rerouted back to you, send it to the proper location.
