Where to get foreign diplomas evaluated?

Where did you guys get your foreign diplomas evaluated for the self sufficiency form? I have my high school diploma with me but it is in my native language and not evaluated yet so I would love to get some recommendations that are affordable.

I used FIS https://www.fis-web.com/credential-evaluations/

 

It is a member of NACES as the I-944 instructions suggest.

 

If your diploma/transcripts are not in English you have to translate them first by a certified translator.

Are you able to send them your diploma yourself or does the institution have to do it? I'm not sure that I will be able to reach my old high school.

With FIS I send them everything, but then they state in the document that you get later that you submitted a photocophy. Other agencies, like WES, requires the original documents sent by an official institution and that it is harder to get. 

 

Anyway I hope that works for USCIS!! I sent my package a week ago so let's see.

Hi, I have one question about foreign diplomas.. so I only used a online website service and got a certified translation. Would that not be enough to be accepted on this form?

Did just get it translated from your native language to english? I believe you need to get it evaluated as well so it tells them what it's equivilancy is.

Yes I only got a certified translation as for now, I'm still gathering my documents but really want to send my package within week or two. As I'm starting to read more about it on this forum and online I'm seeing that I need that evaluation. I just thought at first that then need to prove that I graduated so I thought that translation would be enough.. its not like I'm applying to go to school here. But still - evaluation it is. Do you have any recommendation on where to get it? I only have copies of my diplomas with me  here, the originals are back in my home country.

I got you. I ended up using https://www.fis-web.com/ per the above recommendation as they are on the NACES list that USCIS recommends. It takes roughly two weeks if you pick the cheapest option ($100) but you can also pick options that are faster, although they cost a bit more. Since you already have the translation you wont have to pay for that so you should be able to just upload a PDF of your diploma and translation.

 

They send you a PDF when it is finished and then when they go back into the office you can order a hard copy from them as well. A PDF will work great for the initial filing though. I hope that helped.

How many pages did you translate? I have my high school diploma and bachelor degree. Is that a price per document or per page?

Also they don't need originals as I'm understanding a certified copy that I got from other translation office is fine?

I only translated and evaluated my high school diploma (my bachelors degree is from the United States) which includes all my grades as well so it was one full page of text. I am not sure how much it is if you want more than one document evaluated so maybe sending them an e-mail to double check would be a good idea. 

 

There is also a lot more companies on the NACES list (https://www.naces.org/members) in case you don't like FIS but I had a great experience with them!

They are a NACES member and they allow you to upload scanned documents to start the review but you have to mail them the originals in order to finish the review. The documents do not have to come from the school unless they look like they are unoriginal and have been tampered with. 

 

It took a little over a week to complete the process and they have live chat which is very responsive.

Yes. They sent the originals back along with the evaluation. They also went to the extent of mailing it back in a cardboard enclosed envelope to not bend the diploma which was nice. They take care of the documents.
