I think  they would need a court order to put her on a vent against parents wishes. Maybe Steel can clarify

I would think some sort of court order and social services need to be involved, and by that time the child was dead anyway.

That's a very strong take. Personally I feel they should both be held accountable, but I also feel so sad for them as well. Losing a child must be devastating, and they must be aware that it was their own actions that played a part in her death.

These days I'm cynical.. and that person in me says that they aren't actually aware and think it was all 'god's plan'. They might even get some go fund me dollars in the process.

I agree, but I feel similarly to where a child gets a hold of a parent's firearm and kills themselves. Or when a parent leaves a child in a hot vehicle and the child dies. The parents have suffered enough, but justice is also for the victim. If any of the actions of the mother are found to be illegal, the consequences should be the same as if it was anyone else's child. There should be no special consideration because it was her own child.

I dont think not condoning child abuse is a leftist position. I am sure if it had been meningitis instead of corona, you would have not gotten any push back

The family does have a GoFundMe page. When I looked yesterday, it had around $14,000 in donations. Normally I'd have no issue with a family raising funds for the untimely and horrible death of a 17 year old child, but in this instance it comes off like profiting off not properly caring for their child.

Such a sad situation that likely could have been avoided. I agree that the parents' actions were negligent to the point of being criminal.

This is one situation that's completely incomprehensible to me.  How* could ANY parent FORGET that their own child (or anyone else's) is in the vehicle with them?

*maybe if they're unduly engrossed on their cell phone, which is still inexcusable

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I'm assuming that some overly tired, stressed out, and overworked parents could theoretically briefly forget a child in some realm of possibility. It's incomprehensible to me too. From experience though my parents left us kids unattended in cars for hours (window slightly cracked but still boiling in our 100+ days) and at home too. I'm sure if they had ever been caught they would have said 'they forgot'. I can recall one time it was so hot, I unlocked the car and sat in the lot under a tree.. maybe about 8 years old? My sister remembers being left out in a car for hours in the winter. The youngest at the time needed the bathroom badly, so they got out of the car and started wandering where they were finally found by a stranger. Mom likes to insist she only left for five minutes... not the case at all.
