Obtaining green card following entry into USA

Hi all!

About 4 weeks ago I entered the USA after a very long DCF process to obtain my CR-1 visa.

I’ve now received a I-797C form saying I need to pay an additional $220 to receive my green card.

Therefore, I have a few questions which I’m hoping the experts on here can answer please.

1) Is this something I need to pay? I was under the impression that following the successful approval and entry into the USA on a CR1 visa that the green card is automatically sent out.

2) If I need to pay. It’s asking for the following things. Could someone tell me the easiest way to locate the two references;

i] “A-Number”

ii] DOS case ID

I must admit, I can’t even remember seeing these references and I’m wondering it’s because my application was processed by the UK consulate rather than the NVC

Thanks in advance,

B

You need to pay the USCIS Immigrant fee (Green Card fee) to receive green card. To receive the card faster, immigrant can pay before his arrival to the US.

A-Number and DOS Case ID (start with 3 letters for your local city) can be located in your DS-260 or in your visa (IV case number and Registration number)

You will not receive the green card until the fee is paid.  Both numbers can be found on the visa itself.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
