I don't know what the cutoff was for the small business qualification, but it's clear that the intent was lost.

This is what I found -- I wanted to find a source that was not exactly going to be accused of a partisan slant. :P

Quote

The PPP was established to provide relief to small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, P.L. 116-136, which was signed into law on March 27. PPP funds are available to small businesses that were in operation on Feb. 15 with 500 or fewer employees, including not-for-profits, veterans’ organizations, Tribal concerns, self-employed individuals, sole proprietorships, and independent contractors. Businesses with more than 500 employees in certain industries also can apply for loans, according to the SBA and Treasury.

So now there's talk of another round, which is good. Our small businesses are the lifeblood of our country and represent what remains of the American Dream to so many people. Businesses rise and fall, and aren't guaranteed success, but that's another wonderful thing about America -- it's possible to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again. As long as you aren't wiped out for reasons completely out of your control and you can't really insure against, like a pandemic. I would like to see better safeguards in place to keep the lights on for Main Street this time, if it happens.

Gosh, you're grumpy tonight. :)

Or I could always talk about toxic masculinity or eyeliner. I have three new ones on the way, due to arrive on Wednesday. Eyeliner, that is. Oh and my properly risen pizza dough was lovely this weekend, though the pies turned out a bit wonky because I let Al do the final stretch into a pizza-shape. They're more... oblong. And rectangular. But they were tasty, so there's that.

Or we could talk about whether it's good for the economy as a whole to let massive swaths of businesses fail and cast millions into poverty, bankruptcy, debt, etc.

But honestly, it's time for me to wind down so you know, in the morning I suppose.

Yeah, no reason at all to attack Kanye, he's such an inspiration

Not really -- I think there's also a bigger topic here that we haven't talked about that much: was the PPP effective in getting relief to small- to medium-sized businesses in order to prevent laying off staff during a global crisis? Did money get to the people and businesses who needed it most? Was it right for large corporations with substantial resources to benefit -- either at all, or before other, smaller businesses? What can be learned from how it was handled?

We could also talk about those too. :)

As a business owner who knows other business owners, I can tell you I don't know a single person/company that applied for either PPP or EIDL and didn't get funds. That doesn't mean that some of those who got it should have gotten it(including small businesses themselves - not all of them actually needed it, but proving that was not a requirement, by design), and there was definitely some disarray which made it take a while, but if someone didn't receive funds by now, it can only mean they either waited too long to apply, or did something wrong.

Free money. Needing it is not a requirement. Very few wouldn't take it.

I like to provoke deeper thought because people seem stuck on the "wow that's so stupid" (and this the erroneous Hanlon Razor) factor, but if we look rationally, they're not stupid, so knowing they're not stupid, why do they bother writing this trash?
