Anyone else had this?

Got an interview for 21st April pre-Covid. Was ultimately cancelled, but we had at least gotten that far. Now local office has sent letter saying they feel they need further evidence that our marriage is legit. But we were all good to go before Covid was a thing! Will this just be a case of everything getting backlogged or some other officer looking over our docs after months of inactivity and deciding we need to do more?

It can be anything - worst case they're stalling and want more evidence that you front load the AOS with, best case (we've seen it happening during covid) they want the additional evidence to verify the legitimacy of your marriage and will approve you without an interview.

Don't think to much about the why's, just give them what they want and wait and see what happens :)

They are waiving your interview but they needed something to do so. Send them more evidences, and you might not have to go to an interview.

Oh so this could be a good thing? Okay! - Just we've waited so long that getting the letter felt like a lead brick being dropped after coming so close to interview. Anyway - we have till September 30th but will make sure we get everything together asap. Thank you for the responses!

Though I adjusted from a different visa (F1) we had the exact same thing happening to us: interview scheduled for 3/18 was cancelled. The field office sent us that letter, we sent our evidence and 13 days later we were approved. It is a good thing, just make sure that you send as much evidence as possible, mail it with signature required, and wait for the good news!
