Thank you for saying this. I was very surprised when it all happened last night. I had found this thread a while back and had been following because it seemed like there was lots of good information being shared, but I was not expecting the responses I got. I appreciate the information you’ve shared and I’m sure others do as well so I don’t think you should stop.

all I’m saying is that there seems to be multiple situations of people who are still waiting to hear with cases DQed in feb, March and early April so maybe we all should just be realistic with everything is at and with our information. Did people with dates in April get interviews, sure, I don’t know. But it also sounds like there are lots of cases in between that have yet to be sent to the embassy so I thought people should be aware of that too. I was also not trying to be a naysayer but we all know how much it sucks to get our hopes up only to get them dashed time and time again.

You are most welcome. Also, I don’t think they are skipping anyone. Unless it’s an approved expedite, the NVC sends case files per DQ’s date in sequence.

These are really challenging times and frustrations are running high I think. I try to keep busy, since I have moved to the East Coast. I think the change and move has really helped. At least now I keep busy rearranging and playing interior designer. It keeps my mind busy not worrying about the process. I come on this platform to check on any new updates or share some of mine.

I want to say that one day we could all come on here and share our joy when we start getting visas.

Thanks, that’s what I thought too about the order of DQs. Which is why hearing that they’re in April was confusing to me. I’d still like clarification on whether these “on the ground” sources are personal contacts or just things heard through the grapevine.

sending you all the good vibes that your case will be seen before the baby comes! My husband almost couldn’t make it for our daughter because the embassy in Bujumbura was understaffed but luckily he was able to 🙏 hopefully it’ll work out for you too! And yes, I can’t wait for the day we all have visas. Hoping and praying the vaccination process will ramp everything up! I’m hoping we will hear about our interview soon after they reopen 🤞

Thank you again. Yes I hope he can join me in time but I am also mentally preparing myself not to expect too much. It’s my coping mechanism that I have adopted, where I keep busy and mentally block my mind from thinking/dwelling about the process, otherwise I will lose my mind lol. So Burundi uses the US embassy in Kenya? I would have thought Ruwanda and Burundi had their own embassies. Anyway, that’s great news your husband didn’t miss that special moment and I hope so too that you all get reunited.

As for the “on the ground” info that I get is through a friend of mine who works there. She keeps me updated on the conditions and situations down there. Nothing detailed or intrusive as she has to protect her job. She shares infos like whether or not the embassy is working or not, the whys and even the numbers. Around Nov-Dec she told me how slow things has been and gave me a rough number of about 5000 cases that were pending. Around January she told me that they had started picking up pace and working on all the cancelled appointments. In February I asked her again and she said that she was hopeful. Then around mid March she told me that they went back to phase 1, and are remotely working at home until all staff gets vaccinated. She told me that the vaccines is through the Kenyan govt and I guess they will have to wait their turn. She recently got her first dose and waiting her second dose, but they haven’t gotten the vaccines to all the staff. So until everyone gets vaccinated with both doses, they are unable to return to work. That’s why in one of my posts, I was estimating around end of April-May.

Burundi and Rwanda both have embassies. But Burundi’s stopped doing any visa issuance of any kind so for everything but a 6 month tourist visa you have to go to Kenya. The shorter visa can be done in Rwanda. They don’t do green cards in Burundi because there is no hospital that can do the medical tests and they send it to Kenya because it is the main office for the region. It’s pretty frustrating and I’m ready to not have to keep worrying about it haha

thanks for the added info and clarification! Yours seemed pretty straight forward when you mentioned your friend, and a friend of mine with contact at the embassy for her adoption case basically said the same thing too. It’s the posts that are less specific like “I’ve heard of” that make me wonder where information is coming from and the clarification I was looking for was not necessarily from you. You’ll do great whether he’s there or not and will feel like a boss for birthing that baby 🌟

Hello!

Just wanted to update everyone. My husband just had his interview on April 1st. We were DQ Feb 21 2020 & have been waiting for the interview ever since. We got the interview letter on March 25th, so it was a quick turnaround. My husband had to travel from Uganda to Nairobi, he thankfully made it in just before the lockdown took effect. He got in for his medical on March 30th. The interview was very quick, they just asked him a few questions about how we met & why we wanted to move to the US (I had been living in Uganda with him up until July 2020). He was approved pending an updated police certificate - the one we had was expired. He thankfully did his fingerprints & paid for a new one before leaving for Nairobi & had them send when it was complete. The embassy has received the updated certificate & our case is now under administrative processing.

There is light at the end of the tunnel! I wish you all the best

Thank you for sharing! My husbands DQ is February 24th 2020 so you’ve given me a glimmer of hope that his case will be sent to the embassy soon after the embassy resumes interviews again ♥️

Hi all,

Indeed it is always good to share your experiences whether the news sounds grim or positive lets us all keep sharing.

The above share just reminded us to check our Kenya Police Certificate of Good conduct. It just expired last month. PHEW I thank you for that reminder through your sharing. A cert is only good for one year. We got it last year, 2020, in March just before our 4th Apr DQ. So now we are applying for a new updated one, today incase the interview happens within the next 12 months and we aren't prepared.

Asante.

Weuh, jetlag mwenda. Was meant to write yesterday. So our DQ was March 12th 2020. And then 4 days after i came back from Nairofi, i logged into my email at 5:30am. to see the interview appt. Sema happiness. Medical was end of Jan, not much fanfare she got the vaccinations needed. Interview was Feb 23rd. She was asked when i left for the US, what my parent's names are and whether i have come to Kenya after arusi. Since we didn't have the good conduct she was told to return it with passport. The good conduct came out 2 days later and she was on AP for 5 days. We just arrived from Nairobi 2 days ago(went to pick her up). POE was easy. No questions asked but we waited for 2 hrs. Flight was a killer- 5 hrs to Doha, 15 hrs (Doha to Chicago).

What I am seeing is that DQs that have made progress ni mpaka March.

Anyone from April?

That would be an indicator of how things are moving along.
