Hi everyone!

I saw a thread for recommending reaching out to state senators and representatives for the k1 process. I can’t seem to find it now.

Has anyone been successful and had more favorable outcomes by doing this?

what did you include in your message? I plan to contact the officials for my state and would like some guidance on what to say etc. Thank you! :)

state senators and representatives

Be very careful, because terminology matters.

The people who can inquire are in the offices of your U.S. Senator and U.S. Congressman.

"State" senators/representatives are elected solely in your state to deal with state matters.

They might even be part-time.

They have nothing to do with Federal matters such as immigration.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

There are many threads on this topic. There is a tool you can use to search for these threads in the upper right-hand corner of this page, it's labeled search box.

Here is a good thread that I think will give you a better understanding of the process and an example of one VJ'rs letter. Good luck and stay engaged.

You only received your petition approval in March of this year, and you're already wanting to involve your congressional representatives?  For what purpose?  You know that they don't have any control over consular closures, right?

US senators and congresspersons have the purview of assisting US citizens and residents with federal agencies when they are having trouble getting info, or in the case of immigration:  a decision.  You're well within normal processing time for your visa process.  Your congress member cannot speed up the process or influence a decision either way.

Everyone has to wait their turn when it comes to immigration; COVID has added a new dimension to wait times with USCIS furloughs and embassy closures.

you can try but dont get hopes up. Senators and Representatives have no authority when it comes to immigration

they have no authority to help your case

you just applied january this year and already got NOA2  in March / your case is proceeding fast

now at NVC you are stuck with everyone as the embassies are not interviewing

grab some patience / nothing is going to happen till the embassies open and then the interviews that were cancelled will get prioity

you can not hurry anything up / everyone is in the same boat

Yes, this is what I was looking for, but couldn’t find the original post until it was shared to me. Not to act like i am impatient for my specific  case. Thank you for your help!

Also along with contacting Representatives I was able to find this link with numbers, emails, and fax directly to department of state. You can try contacting them an expressing your concerns about K1s not being included as mission critical. The more voices they hear on the matter the better chance of action. It’s worth a shot.

I have heard that sometimes emailing and contacting the USCIS, consulate or NVS a lot, can actually make it worse and they just let it expire. This is due to them being repeatedly contacted, therefore they ultimately have the power so they just toss your case aside. However if you have a lawyer bothering them, then that is a different story. I know of two couples who contacted their congressman and senators and it hurt their case more than help. I know my fiancé kept emailing all these different emails he found to check on our case, he didn’t get any response. I then found some other emails including one specifically for US citizens and I got a response very quickly. This is also from my personal experience every case and US consulate office is different.

Could you explain more? What was the issue they were contacting them about? What was the result, were they denied at interview and the only logical explanation was that it was a direct result of involving congress and senators?

Sorry to hear about the couple you know. This was not the case in my situation as my case is already at the embassy and my interview already scheduled. So I guess it varies from situation to situations. They were very helpful to my situation

Oh wow that is interesting! I do have an immigration lawyer that we have been using that filed the Petition on our behalf. Maybe it would be better for him to then.
