Hi everyone!

DQ'd a couple days ago. So excited, feels like we're finally in the home stretch!

I realise a lot of the embassies are still closed due to covid, but does anyone have any updates on London?  I saw a couple of people saying they had their interview dates which is awesome, I'm more just wondering if they're only booking expedited or direct consular filed cases or something.

Wishing everyone speedy interview dates and general wellness!

London are resuming spousal visas from monday. We should start to see interviews for those that were cancelled and hopefully mar/April DQ dates coming through next week 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Fantastic news! Hopefully things will get moving for the rest of us shortly afterwards too. Thank you so much!

What travel restrictions? Spouses and kids aren't subject to travel restrictions. Probably a 3 to 4 month backlog, but with them only processing cr/ir and some student visas which could make it go quicker..

Amen to that. Im cautiously optimistic, the only interviews will be those subject to the travel restrictions so they should get through pretty fast :)

Thank you for the insurance company name. It seems that you need to go with a private insurance company in whatever state you plan to live in.

However, I just called the healthcare marketplace again and spoke with a very helpful woman who told me that you can speed things up by uploading proof of your spouse's entry into the country (proof of moving to the US within the last 60 days, or even proof of visa issuance), then calling them to make sure that your spouse's status is updated. This will ensure the fastest enrollment eligibility, and you can enroll with this proof along with the alien registration number instead of a social security number. This was great news for us. The phone rep checked with her supervisor about this, and then she actually used my wife's alien registration number on my enrollment page (to change from an individual to a family plan). Because my wife hasn't actually moved to the US yet, she wasn't able to enroll yet.

Where does it say that the spouse has to have insurance? I don't see it nowhere.

Hello @AllaR

Since end of February -->> https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-processes-and-procedures/public-charge

So basically, the applicant should be able to show proof that he/she is on the process to have a proper insurance within 30 days after entering the US. An exchange of emails with an Insurance company for example.

There is also a form to fill up called DS5540 (you can find many discussions about it on VJ).

The aim of that new form is to make sure the applicant won't be a burden for the US social security and health system.

As far as I know, I have heard no one on VisaJourney who had to show that document and proof of an Insurance contract to be signed, but I advise you to be ready anyway. Just in case. They may ask for it at the Port of Entry.

Take care :)

Thanks a lot. I assume I need to contact my insurance after I have the date of interview, correct? After calling million time back and forth to Embassy and NVC, I feel we have to wait long time since both government departments point at each other without giving me any real response.

That form is still very new and so the Institutions don't seem how to deal with it. They have so much paperwork to do already.

You don't have to wait after the interview to enquire about an Insurance for you/your spouse.

What most couples do is the US citizen petitionner gets in touch with his/her insurance and asks to have his/her spouse added.

You have to fight a bit on this, because most companies will argue :

- that you can add new people on a contract only once a year and at a certain month of the year (November very often I think);

- and also they may tell you that they cannot do it until the immigrant is not "greencarded" by USCIS. So you have to discuss with them, showing them the official document that the applicant HAS TO CONTRACT an insurance within 30 days after arrival.

Good luck 😉

(I have seen no one on Visa Journey who had to show it during the interview at the Embassy)

Where’s the spreadsheet, can you please share?

The spreadsheet mentioned is listed on the first post on this thread that has a bunch of other useful information to get ready for the interview process.
