Anyone that has filled out the DS-5540 form - what kind, if any, of supporting documents did you have?

I filled it out for my wife. We just filled the form up with no evidence. Were planning for her to take the evidence to interview. Evidence that includes, school certificate and some quotes for health insurance that is affordable.

I asked my wife to review the document, but she is not filling it out before her interview. I have her on my work's heath insurance plan so she is bringing in the health insurance cards and the 1095-C as evidence.

We got our interview date - July 24 Ankara, Turkey !

One question, we will bring some evidence of our relationship (photos, albums, etc). Will we get that evidence back or do they keep it?

it depends. ultimately they will return it even if they want to have the evidence for the short term. most likely they want to see the evidence

duh

For anyone that had an expedite request approved - how long was it from when your case was listed as “in transit” until you received an email from your embassy?

Help!
I know a lot of us have issues with getting tax transcripts. I hope to find someone in a similar situation as me and probably others.
We filed including a joint sponsor, who is able to support me enough on his own. We have all the sponsors tax transcripts. We dont have my husbands due to COVID and he is living overseas. His online account is not accessible because he lives with me. But they are also not sending his transcripts by mail. (reason: due to lack of transportation)We uploaded an explanation in CEAC stating this issue and got DQ june 1st. But we did mention that we would bring the transcripts to the interview (we thought the IRS must have gotten a solution by now). Do you think it is an issue if we dont have my husbands transcripts, but we have the joints who makes way over the averages or do we risk being denied? Any thoughts? Thanks all of you!

Hi, I just read your msg and it reminded me that I needed to request the transcript. I live overseas, so they will have to mail it. I can´t get it online.

I called the number on the website:  267-941-1000

They picked up in less than 1 minute and were SO NICE. I ecommend you call this number and request a transcript by mail. They also mentioned that they can fax it. So you might try that, if mail isn´t an option for you...

Good luck!

I don't know if this helps but I filed my taxes via mail in March (My partner is still a nonresident alien obviously so I could not e-file) and for months every time i check for my refund I get a message on the IRS website saying my information cannot be found. Today it finally says "your refund is in process" which means they are tackling taxes again---it is possible they will be mailing transcripts again soon.

At NVC I uploaded my w-2 and a copy of the return I filed with an explanation that the IRS hadn't gotten to paper filers yet. Received DQ with no comment and intend on having my partner bring the same to the interview with the same explanation. I think if you have other official proof of income (equivalent of w-2 and copy of what was filed for your husband and the joint sponsors) you should be okay. You can't be faulted for the entire IRS being backed up.

Sorry hopefully they will approve soon. Is your embassy even doing emergencies and expedites? many people have  expedites but embassies still not open.

Hang in there.

They are scheduling interviews and they expedited it for us so they are doing that. It is just frustrating when you finally think things are moving that they stop. As we all know in this process, our timelines are not up to us
