But if they accept the expedite on finacial hardship grounds can the consul then turn around at the interview and say "I see here youre having finacial troubles..."

Or look at it this way, if you're able to for the most part support two households it indicates you more than meet the minimum requirement, but understandably most people cannot fund this situation indefinitely. I would agree it doesn't hurt to try.

Hi!👋🏻

Have any applicant of Latin America been contacted by the embassy so far? Any signs of life?

Hello!

I'm waiting for the embassy in Bogota and haven't heard anything. I sent them a message on Facebook and they don't have a date for reopening. My case also still says it's at NVC after more than a month :(

Hey my friend from Venezuela.

A few hours ago on the Facebook NVC page, someone waiting for the San Jose, Costa Rica embassy posted that they spoke to someone at the embassy today via phone, and they have begun scheduling interviews with half the staff - that's what he said they told him.

No proof of any interviews scheduled there yet, but it's something in our area!

Let’s hope that things start to move.

my husband called to the NVC today. It was just frustrating for him, they don’t know their own news. He mentioned the mission-critical thing and the girl didn’t know that he was talking about. Them she puts him on hold, and it seems that she found the update and then she said something like "oh that only applies for US citizens spouse"... and he was like... "ok, I’m an is citizen " and the girl didn’t know what to answer. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hiii! 👋🏻 We will go to the embassy in Bogotá too.

But that is the thing and my frustration at this moment. This is what the US embassy in Colombia has on their website:

"In response to significant worldwide challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of State has temporarily suspended routine visa services at all U.S. Embassies and Consulates. Embassies and consulates have canceled all routine immigrant and nonimmigrant visa appointments as of March 20, 2020, but will continue to provide emergency and mission-critical visa services as resources and local conditions allow..."

See? Will continue. Which means that they haven’t stop providing those services. Even when all routine visa services have been suspended.

And according to this update to the proclamation, posted on June 17. In the last paragraph says:

"Routine visas services have been suspended at U.S. posts worldwide, but as resources allow, embassies and consulates will continue to provide emergency and mission critical visa services.  Mission-critical immigrant visa categories may include applicants who may be eligible for an exception under this presidential proclamation, such as: IR/CR1..."

Here is the same thing about "will continue to provide..." and now they put on the list of mission-critical, the visa categories that are not affected by the proclamation. Which means that if your visa category is not affected by the executive order, it doesn’t matter if your case did not got expedited (emergency) in order to be processed during this contingency of COVID... they will process it because they haven’t stop providing those services...

Am I wrong?.. is my interpretation of all this mistaken?...

I had to let it out and said  it ... and see if anyone else shares my point of view about it.

Sorry, I got excited about this subject. 🙃

Hi David!

I have been interpreting everything in the same way are. It doesn't make sense that the embassy isn't open yet, when so many other things are open. We just have to be patient, even though it's so frustrating. I haven't seen my husband for 4 months because I came to California to visit and got stuck here and can't go back to Colombia. I also think they haven't opened because the embassy is in Bogota where there's the most cases. I literally check the embassy's webpage and FB page multiple times a day like a stalker haha

That message on the embassy website is what most of the embassies have posted, although some have provided additional details. I think the important part of the message is the part just after what you highlighted -- "as resources and local conditions allow". They will indeed be processing the mission-critical IR-1/CR-1 visas, but only if virus cases aren't surging and it's safe to do so. Up until recently no cases were processed because it was not deemed safe to do the in person interviews.

Yeah, I understand you. I don’t see my husband (in person) since March 01.

But you know, I’m in Mexico City and here the number of cases is 57,891 and in Bogotá is 36,554. (the demographic difference is just like 1 million.)

Here in the City everything is starting to open, with all the measure of course, but at least they opened. Even I was able to get my police clearance certificate and I have the apostille appointment this Thursday.

I don’t understand why Bogotá is still closed. Is just absurd.

Thank you.

Safe to who? The consular officers? If they are behind a very thick glass window. They will not get COVID from an applicant. We don’t have any contact with them but by a phone or a speaker.

At this point we know what to do to not get COVID 😷, protocols are being implemented everywhere to continue activities in a certain way without getting sick.😷. They can do the same in an embassy. Is like going to the bank.

Seriously, after all this months the excuse of COVID is just absurd.🤷🏻‍♂️🙄

I'm not really sure, honestly. But many people have been working from home these past few months, it's possible embassy employees have been as well?

I do agree there are many things that can be done to minimize risk during interviews like the things you mention. And I really hope they all start implementing them soon and more interviews start happening.

I'm waiting for the Dublin embassy. Ireland has very few cases compared to many places and it's only recently hinted that it might be resuming interviews soon, but of course, I have no idea where I am in the queue.
