I also can't use that "Confirm Your Identity" page*. But without it, I haven't encountered issues when using the USCIS account.

*Looks like that page is for those who entered with Immigrant Visas:

Yeah. I dunno. I tend to find USCIS' instructions/''help'' throws up more problems than it solves. It's why I get stressed out, I need clarity not obfuscation.

Oh well, I'm almost done with it all now, address is changed and have almost completed the I -751, I see light at the end of the tunnel. 😎

Thanks for replying. 🙂

I suggest using this link when checking the status of the I-751 case.  It does not require an account......and it more accurate than the new site.  You need only your USCIS receipt number.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

That is so kind and helpful, thank you! I didn't know about that link.

I was just thinking earlier that it would be better to have an online account to be able to check the progress of my I-751 but since I couldn't verify, I figured I'd just have to wait for something in the mail.

But you're right, you can just put in a receipt number and details show up. I just assumed you needed to be verified to be able to see detailed info. A wrong assumption, evidently!

Many thanks again! 😀

PS - makes you wonder what the benefit of verifying even is, if you can see all your info without it. More for them than us? But since USCIS make it so awkward to do, I don't really care anyway.

Well, I will have to wait for my receipt number in the mail, but then I can see the decision online. 🙂

  • 1 year later...

Same here: got my L1 Visa in London UK in 2014, I'd like to verity my identity with USCIS web site, but I don't have a DOS ID. The instructions online repeat the same steps, which don't work. I also noticed a few threads in this forum repeating the same instructions, that don't work.

You can find your A-Number and Department of State (DOS) Case ID on your immigrant data summary,
USCIS Immigrant Fee handout, or immigrant visa stamp.

I don't have either "Immigration data summary" or "Immigration fee handout". Or maybe I had it, it's been 8 years since the VISA interview. I checked hundreds of mails and docs, no trace of these.

Your DOS Case ID is identified as the IV Case Number on your visa stamp. However, please note the IV Case Number has two additional numbers at the end, such as 01 or 02. When entering the IV Case Number as the DOS Case ID, do not include the last two numbers. For example, if your IV Case Number is “ABC1234567801,” you would enter your DOS Case ID as “ABC12345678” (do not include the “01”).

My VISA stamp doesn't have an "IV CASE NUMBER", only a "Control number" in that spot top-right, that has an additional "01" suffix (looks like "2014XXXXXXXX01" where X are digits, not letters). USCIS web site doesn't like it:

We could not find the A-Number and/or DOS Case ID you entered.
If your immigrant visa was approved recently, wait five days before attempting to pay. If the problem continues after five days, contact the USCIS Contact Center for assistance.
