Work force really has nothing with people breaking the law...you can be legal and be part of the work force....if they are so beneficial why do we have an immigration system at all?

I certainly don't dispute that and agree with you. Of course with the way economics works though - there is a demand for cheap labor. Cheap labor enables cheap product for the consumer. To attract American workers to do jobs they certainly don't want to do, a company would have to pay benefits and high wages and possibly offer a union or bargaining, of which they would be reluctant so first the company would look to export abroad for cheaper options to save themselves money, and if they couldn't this cost would come down to the consumer if they didn't go out of business first. I could never understand why a laborer in the field doesn't make an enormous sum of money, whereas a burger flipper complains about how little they get... but this is where we're at in society.

it also makes no sense that B1/B2 visas that are allowed max 6 months stay can magically find love adjust status (we all know there's a game cheat right there)....if you a student it's ok and if you have a visa that allows you to stay more than a year then it's also ok to adjust status.

Are you saying that people can't meet and fall in love and want to get married in under 6 months? Because this website is full of people who don't even meet in person but fall in love online in a matter of weeks, go meet the other person and decide to get married in only a couple of months. Or less! I am not saying their love isn't real, not at all. When I met my ex-husband, I was abroad on a visa and fell in love with him in about four months. It happens. That I was on a student visa didn't make my love more real than if I were on a visitor visa.

Meh, I was in love with my husband the very first day my best friend said "hey I know this sweet guy and he'll make you laugh for sure" and I saw him on webcam. A year later when he came for a visit, I knew this was the man I was going to marry. Granted we didn't do so for ages of years later, but I wasn't wrong. I would have married him right then and there if he'd asked me. Love is love, people fall in love instantly or slowly, for better or worse, for stupid or cautiously. There is a perception of people abusing visit visas or the VWP, and of course they do - but these are grey areas and the government has never seen fit to stop it for many reasons.

How can you tell though? That's an adjudicator"s job. We don't get to say who did it "right." And people can change their minds when they get here. The system provides for that. I don't cast aspersions on these people.

When I met my current fiancé, I "knew" within minutes I wanted to be with him as his partner. Life didn't turn out that way for a long time, but my instincts were correct. We know when we know.

The reason they hire illegals is because so Many Americans, who are perfectly capable of working have figured out you can do just as well by being in the Guberment system, and you dont have to get up in the morning, break a sweat and all that yucky stuff,

A county near me is one of the largest peach producers in America. The same county has over 50% of people age 16 to 30 getting some form of public assistance. The are allowed to legally import Hispanics, because they cant sustain their businesses hiring from the local economy.

There is your problem

The reason they are going to hire them though is simple economics. There have been some companies that have tried - and the simple fact is you aren't going to get an American to get up and do those jobs for those wages and no benefits - regardless of if they are on assistance or not. I could show you a 'community' down the road filled with drug-addicted individuals all mostly on some sort of assistance, and they aren't working because they are on drugs, have a criminal history, and even if clean their past history won't get anyone hiring them. MD's eastern shore depends on immigrant labor for fishing and farming - without it we have shortages and the prices go sky high. How much are you willing to pay for a product to get that lazy American out of bed? How much is the company willing to pay to tempt them?

Adjusting from a B2 is certainly legal under current immigration law, but that does not mean everyone agrees with it.  I for one think it is wrong, but I will provide advice of this legal avenue when appropriate.  When one is connected to someone from a country where it is not difficult to visit the US, I don’t think they realize how restrictive it is for someone to get a B2.  I know my then GF tried twice to get a B2, and was rejected both times due primarily to past bad acts of others overstaying their own B2s, if the option to AOS from a B2 for a spouse, or parent was changed, I would not lose any sleep over it.

There are people who game the fiancé and spouse visas too. Just look at the Effects of Major Changes forum.

I don't disagree with you. :) I think there probably should be more scrutiny than we hear about on here for these cases. Like, you come to visit your US boyfriend, he has a medical emergency and needs your support: sounds okay to me. But you come over here to visit your boyfriend who was introduced to you by your cousin who lives over here (and you have extended family here already) and whoops you're married might need a closer inspection. Just my opinion.

Considering overstays of a visitor visa appears to be a bigger issue then illegal crossings, maybe it is time to end the VWP and make everyone from every country apply for a B2.
