After I read a recent article I got to wondering, why is there so much talk ALWAYS in the US media, internet and social activist's for Illegal immigrants and letting them be forgiven and ease their path towards citizenship, when so MANY people play by the system, wait years and years pay a lot of money and are separated from love ones doing things the legal way.  But no one talks about legal immigration. Why? How can we change this?

No protest's, no social activist's all over social media constantly yelling to change the system to make it easier, faster or cheaper for legal immigration. Why?

I read a recent article from a man whose parents were legal immigrants who petition him their underage son for years and applied multiple times and they spent much money and told him over and over America owes you nothing we will be grateful to be in America and then he finally got accepted and they did everything the legal way, and he was upset that Americans would forgive so many DACA recipients and illegals but there was no bleeding hearts for legal immigration or protest for change. And it got me thinking.

Where is the bleeding hearts for Legal immigration like society has for Illegal immigration?

Example when I talk to my relatives back home in USA they know and have heard about:

DACA court battles, protests and victory

The upset over ice going into sanctuary cities

The asylum seekers in Mexico

But I tell you NONE heard of until I told them:

Executive Orders on legal immigration

Travel ban

Public charge rule

USCIS upping their fees

USCIS offices furloughing their employees

Why is legal immigration not talked about as much?

Whose easy votes?

People seem to forget that Reagan (and the republicans) were only administration in the last 100 years to actually grant amnesty to illegal aliens. On the other hand, Bill Clinton's reforms in 1996 added the 3 and 10 year bans and removed many of the existing judicial barriers to deportation. Prior to Clinton's 1996 reform there had never been 50000 deportations in a single year. In 1997 there were 100000 and 1998 saw >150000. Deportations have never fallen below 100000 since 1996. However neither of these "reforms" actually addressed the underlying issue (which is really topic unto itself), which is why 35 years later, the problem continues.

At any rate, the myths of "easy votes" and democrats being easy on illegal immigration are perpetual, but not really grounded in reality. For the most part, neither party has ever made immigration reform a priority when they have had the chance, and both parties have actually had several opportunities to do so.  Like many aspects of our political system, immigration reform has consisted of a lot of talk and little actual substance. A quick look beyond the rhetoric reveals there is nothing easy about it, nor has one party done a better job of addressing the issue.

It hard to compare because there have never been a democratic that are so far out as they are now with AOC, Bernie, Pelosi and several governors also.

So the government's lazy and doesn't want to work on the hard issues because of lack of public pressure maybe?

I just can't understand how people in the USA don't know barely anything about legal immigration or news involving legal immigration.

Is it all just click bait from the democratic news outlets to cause outrage and sympathy? And thats why illegal aliens get away with SO MUCH and are covered consistently in the news, twitter and everywhere and having protest rallies?

Is legal immigration just to hard to convey to the people?

Yep. Shows like 90 day fiancé doesn’t help in it either because they don’t really show how the process is the money involved and the waiting time and so on. I have met many many people here that have no clue what it takes to immigrate here. Many people think it’s very easy to get any kind of visa or just move here.
the news are good at getting people to feel bad for all those illegals and many only read the headlines and don’t really read what it really means.
man example can be my in laws we just can’t get it into their head that we aren’t Americans the day we moved here they keep thinking that no matter how hard we try to tell them otherwise.

The same reason it doesnt make the news when people withdraw money from thier bank accounts,  but is headline news when people rob a bank

To be fair legal immigration reform has been in the news a lot since Trump got elected.

I remember Reagan's screw up well. He was promised border security and it never happned.

The dems in recent years have been putting policies in place that coddled illegals and encouraged more. Sanctuary cities are just one example of many.

I , like Trump am in favor of a program to allow law abiding illegals that are firmly rooted in our society to stay. Only after we fix illegal immigration. One good step is fine people that hire them with progressive fines, with jail time at some point. A guest worker program if unemployment is below a certain %.

Really, both of the major reform bills in our lifetimes have actually made things worse. Reagan's amnesty made people think amnesty was going to be a recurring option when it was always a one time thing. It actually encouraged illegal aliens to remain to reach some hypothetical time limit that actually meant nothing.

Prior to Clinton's reforms, the majority of illegal aliens actually used to leave of their own accord, but the risk of the being banned made it more likely for them to try and remain and hide in the USA moving from job to job rather than return home.

I think we have agreed in the past that the only real way to prevent illegal immigration anywhere is to remove the economic incentive. Unfortunately the complexity of that issue extends far beyond immigration. I do think it has become more partisan as time has gone on, but at the same time, they are getting farther from an actual solution. They tend to address the symptoms, but the root of the problem is never addressed. I don't think either party will risk doing what needs to be done. They will keep talking about it though.

Also amazing how much news the restrictions from countries with known terrorist ties got, but didnt point out many countries   such as the Philippines have very restrictive policies
