Indeed! Thanks for the confirmation.

I am curious to see what they will do with my I-751 now.

I've read some here on VJ who had a joint interview for their i-751 and N-400.

I just checked that USCIS Naturalization page and it appears that this is not only true for those in the military. We can file the N-400 so long as we meet below criteria;

Eligibility

To apply for naturalization to become a U.S. citizen, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time you file the application;
  • Have been a lawful permanent resident for the past three or five years (depending on which naturalization category you are applying under);
  • Have continuous residence and physical presence in the United States;
  • Be able to read, write, and speak basic English;
  • Demonstrate good moral character;
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government;
  • Demonstrate a loyalty to the principles of the U.S. Constitution; and
  • Be willing to take the Oath of Allegiance.

Yes, this is true.

You can apply for naturalization 90 days before your third anniversary of when you first became an LPR. Even if your 751 hasn’t been approved yet.

The difference with people applying based on military service is that we do not have to wait for the three years to apply.

^This part ends up requiring either a joint I-751/N-400 interview or that the I-751 is approved before the N-400. But as already stated, @DC909 N-400 case doesn't need an approved I-751:

https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-12-part-i-chapter-3 "If the applicant is a conditional permanent resident and is eligible to naturalize on the basis of military service during hostilities without being an LPR based on being in the United States during enlistment or induction, the applicant is not required to file or have an approved Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence (Form I-751) before his or her Application for Naturalization (Form N-400) may be approved."

There is also another type of applicant that can skip ROC. See INA 319(b): https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-12-part-g-chapter-4 "Spouses of U.S. citizens who are regularly stationed abroad under qualifying employment may be eligible to file for naturalization immediately after obtaining LPR status in the United States. Such spouses are not required to have any prior period of residence or specified period of physical presence within the United States in order to qualify for naturalization."

Since this is the case, I wonder if my 751 will just be discontinued or dropped. Or if they will just approve it. Curios to find out.

Can I return with my expired GC with the letter of extension?

Yes. CBP provides airlines a Guide and the Guide clearly says you can travel to the US: https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/assets/documents/2019-Mar/2019 Carrier Information Guide - ENGLISH.pdf

But you'll also need a negative Covid-19 test before you come back: https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/fr-proof-negative-test.html

Thanks a lot! One more question, on the CBP website it states the following:

"Expired Conditional Resident Card, Form I-551
accompanied by Form I-797, Notice of Action
indicating the card validity is extended"

What is Form I-551? Is that the conditional resident card?

Thank you!

Hey all. I checked my case status this morning and it shows “Case was updated to show fingerprints were taken.” Not sure if they are using my fingerprints from my last AOS or my recent fingerprints that I took on 1/13 for my N-400. Either way, happy to see some more movement.
