My wife kept her maiden name on her immigration paperwork, says it will not cause a problem that way for traveling. What she did do was change to the married name for everything else. All you need is the marriage certificate. Went to social security motor vehicles and even got credit card and banking info in married name. she will change to married name when she naturalizes.

Ok, We married in Mexico where they don't put the husband's last name on the woman due to not wanting to be the man's property.  We already filed ROC in July.  So can she go down to social security with the original mexican marriage certificate despite not having my last name on her name on the marriage certificate?

our marriage certificate has both our names at the top, Her maiden name my regular name. then their is 2 columns, party A and B, going down the columns is name dat of birth etc then Surname.... we both have my last name there. How does mexico do it? They dont include a surname? I guess you could go to social security and change it. not everyplace is the same and they will adapt. if its a marriage certificate you have a right to have your husbands last name.

On our mexican marriage certificate it says at the top

Husband first - (I am the american citizen here) My whole name

Wife - ( my wife is the mexican/beneficiary) it has her whole maiden name

Below us it has the information of both our parents.  So she wants to be an Andersen which is my last name.  Andersen is all over the paper because of my name and my parents.

I would just show up at the social security office and tell them my wife wants to change her last name to her married name . Bring your marriage certificate and have them change it. let them figure it out. Your in Arizona so I'm sure they've done it before.

Today I received a letter for my Biometrics appointment. I already expected that I'd have to go in for biometrics cos our CR1/CR2 paperworks were processed overseas.

So my question is, on my biometrics appointment does my dependent need to be there with me? He came here to the US with me.

Yes, that is correct.

We called the local office (Bartlett, TN) and they told us not to bring her sons with her.  They said if they wanted biometrics from them, they would have sent a separate I-797 asking for them.  She attended w/o the boys and they indeed did not expect them to be there.

All SSA offices are appointment-only until further notice: https://www.ssa.gov/coronavirus/ "Due to COVID-19, you must have a scheduled appointment to enter an office. Only you may enter the facility unless you have made additional arrangements when you scheduled your appointment."

ok, let me rephrase that, I would make an appointment to have my name changed on my social security account to reflect my married name and bring all the required evidence of marriage that I have.

It’s been over a month since I received my NOA and still no biometrics applied to my case which starts by msc by the way, so any ideas?

I heard from my attorney that in some cases they now do not require biometrics again for ROC due to Covid. They are supposed to send a letter when such is the case, but apparently that doesn’t happen uniformly.

I submitted my I751 in June 2020 and as of October 2020 have only received my NOA (from Texas Service Center).

Anybody have any idea about doing a name change after you have filed your ROC and received extension letter?  My wife wants to change her last name to mine while she is waiting on ROC.  She filed in July 2020 and received extension letter already.  Thanks!

Unless it is absolutely necessary I would not open that can of worms. You know how the government works. Something will most certainly get messed up... wait until after the process has been completed. My friendly suggestion.

I would wait until RoC is over or until citizenship is over. This is likely to just get confusing and messy with USCIS right now.
