Getting married + BAH

Hello,

I’ll be probably moving to San Diego end of July on a K1 visa.

My fiancé is a Marine living Camp Pendleton and he lives in the barracks.

I read that it takes about 2 weeks for us to receive the marriage certificate after getting married (which we plan do to right away).

Does anyone know if that’s accurate?

Then, enroll into DEERS and apply for BAH so we can get a place to live off base.

The issue is that he doesn’t have family there and I can’t stay with him in the barracks so we’d have to pay for a place before getting BAH or stay with some of his friends (which I’m slightly reluctant).

Does anyone have any advice on this? Does the Marine corps pay back for the money we'd spend if we rent a place before receiving BAH and if so, does it take long?

Any other military tips would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Every city/town is different when it comes to marriage certificates so if you intend to marry in San Diego I would have your fiancé contact the city hall(?) To clarify how long it takes. For ours it was ready the next day. I’ve heard of others it taking 1+ months. There may also be a delay due to covid so I would have him definitely find out as some places in CA are being hit hard.

It might take a while till the BAH finally gets paid ( paper can be quite patient in the military 😉) but they'll pay you back for everything starting from the day of your marriage. Everything before is on you. So get married fast 😊

I'm glad to heart that! we'll definitely get married as soon as we can. My fiancé was just wondering if he would actually be back paid. Thank you!
