Hello everyone,

Hope all is well, I have a question regarding Tax Returns for Immigration purposes such as my case with N400. I heard that you need to take Tax transcripts from the IRS and collect all the years (5) as a prove of good moral conduct, now as I was looking at the list I could not see my 2015 tax return transcript on there (see the img below for reference)

I did file for 2015 tax return, in fact I have all documents supporting my statement. My question is would it be ok to bring W2 or 1040EZ as proof? Im just not sure if the system is glitching but I could access everything else but the return transcript of that year. I can access the Account Transcript and Wage & Income Transcript.

Thanks in Advance

I apply  via fax to get my tax transcript and it takes 3 weeks before I  received it..I had my interview last May 24,2021 in Portland and I am from seattle. The officer did not asked me any tax transcript. Only she asking me is my passport and drivers license.but i know that all of us have different experience .

Maybe a dumb question, but when they say tax return, do they just need the 1040 portion or all of the schedules, etc.? Since they're suggesting we bring returns or transcripts for three years prior to application*, which was in 2020, we need info going back to 2017 but the IRS transcripts only go back to 2018. I want to be prepared but also don't want to have to print out 50+ pages of the full 2017 return with schedules, etc. (our taxes are somewhat complex) if the two-page 1040 is sufficient. Not being a tax expert, I'm not sure if the 1040 alone meets the definition of "tax return" for their purposes or if they really do (potentially) want to see all of the schedules.

* Some sources, including some USCIS documentation, just say to bring tax returns for the past three years, but elsewhere USCIS says three years prior to application. We're erring on the side of caution.

I could only get 3 years of the tax return transcripts, and I downloaded the prior 2 years using one of the other options on the IRS website (I think it was the account transcript). IO was happy with that. My understanding is that most people on 5 year rule don’t even get asked to show them. I think I had a newer officer that was making sure every i was dotted and every t was crossed.

were you asked on your info notice to  bring tax transcripts on your interview date or

did you just bring them in case you get asked for them?

In our case, they weren't required but just suggested -- not specific to us, just part of the standard letter everyone gets. As it turns out, we didn't get asked for them anyway. Better safe than sorry, though!
