Hey @Cmptrsdeal can I ask about how the process went for you before? Did you get any specific RFEs or learn anything you wish you knew beforehand?

I did get an RFE and it was over something stupid that was easily avoidable.  If I remember correctly I had done the passport photo for me in the Philippines, cause it was cheaper and I got the wrong size and I had to run to Walgreens or CVS and get one done and send it back into them.  But other than that, it's pretty simple as long as you follow the step by step guide here on VisaJourney, you will be just fine.  This was done back in 2013 and I had helped a friend file back in 2018 and they never received an RFE, just went straight to approved and onto the NVC.

yea, they did and I think it was on the notice date they sent it to me.  I would have to go back and look at the text.

I honestly didn’t think I was an ugly person until I looked at the passport photo and it made me rethink everything 😂

Found love, thought I wanted this path, two years later realized my partner was not worth all the stress 😁

yea,  when I did it on my phone this time,  I felt the same way.  there's a kool app that if you have the right lighting, you don't have to go to CVS or Walgreens,  you can take the photo and this app will send you the photos directly,  it's only $6.

Is the receipt number really important? Do we use it in the future?

If you ever need to call in regarding your case, you will need  your Receipt number and to check your status also.

Here's alittle bit of interesting info about the Receipt number:

Each of the 13 digits in a USCIS receipt number has a specific purpose. Here’s how to read a USCIS receipt number.

Let’s take an example receipt number to explain it:

WAC 16 012 50960

Service Center (WAC 16 012 50960)
Every receipt number begins with three letters that represent the service center that received the case. There are several codes for USCIS service centers. They include:

CSC – California Service Center
EAC – Eastern Adjudication Center (now known as Vermont Service Center)
IOE – ELIS (efile)
LIN – Lincoln Service Center (now known as Nebraska Service Center)
MSC – Missouri Service Center (now known as National Benefits Center)
NBC – National Benefits Center
NSC – Nebraska Service Center
SRC – Southern Regional Center (now known as Texas Service Center)
TSC – Texas Service Center
VSC – Vermont Service Center
WAC – Western Adjudication Center (now known as California Service Center)

Fiscal Year (WAC 16 012 50960)
The second set of digits represent the fiscal year that the case was received. Government agencies use a fiscal year that is different from the calendar year. It begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. So our example case number was opened between October 2016 and September 2016.

Computer Workday (WAC 16 012 50960)
The third set of digits indicates the computer workday that the case was opened. The computer workday is basically the same thing as a workday. Therefore it excludes most weekends and holidays. Our example case was opened on the 12th workday of the 2016 fiscal year (October 18, 2016).

Case Number (WAC 16 012 50960)
The final set of five digits is the case number.

AND LASTLY, CHECKING YOUR STATUS YOURSELF:

Go to this site:

https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

Enter the entire 13-digit number without spaces and click the "Check Status" button and view the results.

you are quite welcome.  Anything I can do to help to make the whole process more understanding.  I'm always here and any post done on this forum, I get notified so unless I am sleeping I am pretty quick on responding... 😉

This forum and the USCIS link I gave you will be your best friends for the next hopefully just 5-6 months.  If you have not done so already,  might want to bookmark it  or put it in your bookmark toolbar so u can always easily access it lol    One thing I use to do the last time I did this was go and look at the forum for the June filers and see what's going on there.   The sooner those all get taken care of, then it starts our turn and I've seen cases to where ppl will start getting notified when there are still ppl waiting who filed from June.  I did notice that the last time I went thru this. 🙂

There are cases here in VJ where they have accepted the I-129F receipt notice (NOA1) for AOS. The form says: "NOTE: Attach a copy of the Form I-797 receipt or approval notice for the underlying petition or application, as appropriate."

I Agree with Greenbaum. Honesty is the best policy.

Also side note,  I received my NOA 1 today in the mail. Never got an email or text even though I submitted the form . I sent this to the TX lockbox but It seems to be from USCIS California Service Center.  I sent it July 02,  Received date is July 07. Notice date is July 14. Would my NOA date be 07-07-20?

I wonder why they didn't use the G-1145

USCIS is notorious about not sending an email notification even with a G-1145. Most don't receive an email but it's not typical not to receive a NOA1 or NOA2 by snail mail so keep an eye out for those. BTW you'll need either the NOA1 or 2 for the AOS once you are submitting the I-485.
