Hello,

I recently checked my case status and noticed that my I-130 was finally approved earlier this year. I had petitioned in 2015, and it took 5 years for the approval (NOA2). In the meantime I had moved to a different address so I did not receive the approval notice.

It seems to get another approval notice I need to file Form I-824 which has a high fee of about $500. Is there any other way to get this approval notice, I feel the fees is very high just to issue a duplicate approval notice.

I wanted to get the thoughts of the forum.

 Thanks in advance.

What kind of case did you apply for?

Why didn’t you update your address with USCIS  when you moved?

Why didn’t you check / follow up on your case more frequently?

I petitioned for my daughter under FB-1 category. It was my mistake that I didn’t update the address. Wonder if there is any alternative to avoid paying the $500 I-824 fees.

The notice doesn’t have any significant importance in rest of the process. Approved petition is sent to NVC after USCIS.
