Thank you! We're not worried what her passport/ID ends up being but more so if it would cause issues for her final interview if we left it as just her maiden name now. I keep finding back and forth answers on other threads.

That happened to me too. The back and forth answers. Sometimes I got the wrong one or did the wrong thing and had to start all over again. I just home that doesn't happen when he is in an airport or something. That cost money. Well, like I do... Just do your best. Everything should be fine. It is a lot of work. Prayers.

Ours went that way as well back in March 2020. They have it on mission critical and say that it is going to be done but that they are short staffed. The lockdowns and delays have been a mess. We are told to be patient. CR1 visas are available it is only that the processing needs done. Waiting is a pain!!! We are waiting too.

@April M.

Did you attend the interview? Was your visa approved ? Does it mean that you haven't received your visa since March 2020?

I thought I answered this already but it came to me again.

Our more documents they wanted were excepted and all that needs to be done is to issue the visa. Our case is mission critical and they keep saying we are next. So we wait. As soon as they contact us we are all set to go.

I am not happy with all the circumstances we have to go through as a couple because they are keeping us waiting. And all the while when many couples are being reunited.

We have prevailed and done many good things while waiting which is a blessing but we are very home sick for each other and keeping a married couple apart is not right. That is why they have visas waiting for couples just like us.

We have worked very hard and continue to as we wait for them.

Can anyone confirm that the documents the NVC requires (i.e. police clearance, birth cert.) expire within six months of obtaining them? I do not see anything stated like that on the travel.state.gov website.

Police clearance is only valid for 1 year: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-5-collect-financial-evidence-and-other-supporting-documents/step-7-collect-civil-documents.html

Glad I found your thread!! 🙌   ....With Joburgs consulate being closed, are they still doing interviews? We finally finished the paperwork today and are waiting for the NVC to approve.

I think so but I would just email them like I did our whole journey. Just what I think.

Birth certificates don't expire. Police certificates are valid for one year.

We don't have enough South Africans posting on here to be able to find any information atm. However, if you join our Facebook group, it keeps growing and as people find out new things, they keep us all updated. With the consulate being closed due to COVID, it will take some time before they are able to open again. It depends on the level of lockdown for their area and SA as a whole. Back in July I think it was, the department of state issued guidelines for how and when consulates could reopen/resume consular services according to local conditions.
