Sen. Tim Scott: Democrats Cannot Allow Republicans To Be Seen As A Party That Reaches Out To All Communities

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) delivered an impassioned speech on race and racism on the Senate floor following news that Democrats will filibuster Scott's bipartisan police reform bill. Scott said he was disappointed Democrats blocked his police reform proposal from a vote in the Senate Wednesday.

Republicans could have done this at any time without opposition in the 2 years that they held both chambers of congress. I'm not sure why people keep falling for lines like this. Blaming the other party is a complete bull excuse to avoid owning to once own inadequacy. Failure at anything should be addressed by first looking in the mirror. That's where the blame starts. It's not someone else fault.

Umm, you do understand the Senate filibuster right?  When did the GOP ever hold a filibuster proof majority In the Senate in the recent past?  It is clear the DNC and their bigoted Speaker and Nominee want this as an election issue which is really telling to those that actually see it.

Do you have any more excuses? I'm sure they would be happy to have a few more. I'm sure both parties love that when their bases do this. Takes a lot of pressure off of them to actually do anything.

Personally I want to see the bottom line. Get things done. If they had gotten results instead of excuses in those first 2 years, maybe they would have picked up seats and not have to worry about filibusters. Everyone understands how filibusters work because they have been used more in the last 12 years than they were in the history of congress up to that point. They can be overcome if they gained enough seats or if they are willing to compromise and avoid them. On the other hand, when a party has the majority and gets nothing done, it's not going to put them in a better position.

So we had 8 years of Obama and Biden, and now Biden wants to fix things. LOL

So the Senate rules are my excuse?  It is my understanding that quite a few Democrats were involved in drafting this Bill and with the potential amendments it may have actually passed, but the Dem leader in the Senate could not let down queen Nancy.  Besides, Obama/Biden had the same majority For two years and did nothing.  Additionally, most of this should in fact be done at the state and local level, but it would have been nice to see the Democrats in the Senate actually act like states persons instead of racist politicians.

Well Biden won't fix anything, just like Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton et al didn't. If you actually think the president is capable of actually fixing something in isolation, that is a bigger issue. I am sure you don't believe that to be the case.

America actually needs congress to be functional for anything to get done. Seems voters on both sides have become resigned to not ever having that happen. Voting for the people who make the most noise or toot their own horns the best does not accomplish that. Holding congress accountable is what does. Too many in congress shouldn't be there based on their, but unfortunately they are going to win their districts based on name recognition or popularity.

The senate rules exist. You can either win a filibuster proof majority or you can compromise to get the support needed. Those are the options. Failure to do either of those things is just failure. It doesn't need a disclaimer.

The president has little power by themself to make any changes.  Of course we have been hearing for 3 plus years that Trump is acting like a monarch, or dictator.  It is clear the Dems have a political partisan agenda here, and we will see that play out in political ads right up until November.

Or you have a bunch of partisan hacks that will not cross their leadership.  What else do you expect from the party of division.

Well then explain how according to many and the media Trump has ruined America

I don't expect anything from either of the partisan parties of division. Neither do I expect the average American do educate themselves on how they are being played. I do think the latter would be easier though, becauseuntil that happens, the parties have no real incentive to change.

Yep, the go to both are doing it.  Sure the GOP practices partisan politics on occasion, but in my lifetime, I have seen much more compromise coming from their side then from the Dems.

So Senator Durban shows the true colors of the Democrat Party.

Durbin made the "token" remark during a speech on the Senate floor only hours after the Scott-led Republican bill was introduced.

"We cannot waste this historic moment, this singular opportunity. Let's not do something that is a token, half-hearted approach," Durbin said, referring to the bill.

This was not a casual choice of the term.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
