Hello everyone, I am a US citizen petitioning for my wife, a Filipino citizen. We married in Hong Kong and lived together in Macau for several years while I worked there. Because of a job change, I had to come back to the United States. As soon as I learned of this (back in early 2019), we submitted an application for an IR-1 visa. Because my wife's visa was linked to my work permit, she had to return to the Philippines a few months after we submitted our application. Thus, we requested in our application that my wife's visa interview be held at the US Embassy in Manila.

We recently received our NVC case number. However, the notice said that my wife would have to appear for an interview at the US Consulate in Hong Kong. Because of COVID-19 related travel restrictions (Hong Kong is denying entry to all foreign nationals until at least September 18), that simply would not be possible.

I would be curious to know what people's recent experiences have been with requests for changes in interview location (from one country to another; not just within a country). How long does it typically take? Thank you very much for your time.

Email NVC.   Changing locations is usually fast when the case hasn't shipped.  Last one I did back to Manila took 5 days to get confirmed.   They interviewed the next month.   Obviously that won't happen quickly now.  They would hold it at the NVC until an appointment can be scheduled.
