Just a quick message to all of you who need to get Passport photos done...

Try not to go to Snappy Snaps...they charge £10.99 for two photos and the quality is not good at all. The person at the embassy was not impressed by the quality and said not to go there to get them done.

Cheers!

Andy

This must vary from location to location. My fiance had all his US passport photos done at his local Snappy Snaps and the consulate didn't have a problem with them.

I think rather than tell everyone to ignore Snappy Snaps that they should just ignore the person who took them at your particular store! Seriously though, Snappy Snaps normally do a great job and you may find that you had a novice photographer or someone just having a bad day.

Snappy Snaps is actually (or was) on the recommended list by the Embassy, so they can't be all bad. My photos were great, as were my son's.

I think the onus is on the buyer to double check the photos before leaving the shop. If they are poor quality, get them to re-do them.

Yeah, Snappy Snaps is on the Embassy's own list of places to go for passport (well, visa) photos, isn't it? I had mine done at the branch close to where I worked, and they were fine - the staff seemed to know exactly what they were doing, too, and I guess they'd done it hundreds of times before. All they needed to know was that it was for a US visa, and they had them done (exactly to the right specifications!) straight away. I suppose it depends what branch you go to.

But yeah... they're not cheap, I'll agree with you on that!

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

I went to some Chemist on the road between Oxford St and Grosvenor Square, and the photos were fine. Sorry I don't remember the name of the place, but it was very convenient!

Our set for the G-325As were fine but I looked like I'd been pulled through a hedge, punched in both eyes and hungover, all for the princely sum of £10.99! Bruce looked a bit odd too, but it was acceptable, clearly. Second set we had done for the interview only cost £9.99 (why £1 less?) and the boy looked good in them. Different Snappy Snaps, better result. Clearly it's down to the photographer on the day.

Snappy Snaps in Shepherds Market, Mayfair makes you check you are happy with the photos before accepting payment. If there is anything you don't like, they simply re-do them with no fuss.

The Chemist between Oxford Street and Grosvenor Square shows you the back of the camera before printing them out, and will retake them if you don't like them.

OK maybe i was unlucky with my photos but I'm only passing on the message from the woman at the embassy. The ppl at Snappy Snaps seemed to know what they were doing, but the actual finishing of the photo was not fantastic...this was at the Snappy Snaps in Southampton...they print it off on some home digital photo printer!

I wish i done it myself..

I guess don't go to the one in Birmingham. They charged £14.99 for two...

The quality was fine though

Completely unrelated but god I miss the Asian fusion restaurant in Shepherds Market, and the cafe next to the newsagent that does a very good fry-up.

There is also a chemist on Audley Street that does really good photos too (just 1 min from the embassy).

I went to an independent photographers in Lye, West Midlands (see www.portrait4u.co.uk) to get mine done. I called the Snappy Snaps in Birmingham and they said £15 for two (and of course, if you read the paperwork, you have to have three - despite the fact that my photo for the medical was cut to a different size!), so I thought I'd pass on that.

The place in Lye charged £20 for three - not exactly cheap but they are excellent quality, bang on spec, and your image is kept on their files if you need reprints. Recommended if you're in the West Midlands.
