Hello - quick question hope it is not too complicated!

My grandmother a greencard holder for about 7 years and retired think she's 68 would like to know if she can sponsor her two sons in Brazil to come to USA. Yes they are both over 21 and unmarried (both divorced).

I know there is a financial aspect to this so would she need a cosponsor such as my mother (US citizen)?

Thank you!

Your grandmother would need a cosponsor ; someone who can meet the financial guidelines. Assuming your grandmother is not married and does not have other children here/sponsored other family... she would need to show finances for 3 people.

Yes, she needs to file 2 I-130s for her sons. It takes at least 8 years for F2B visa numbers to be available for them so don't worry about financial support at this time.

Is there a backup plan incase you mother dies before they come?  Would your mother also petition them?

Would it make sense for my mother to cosponsor them?

My mother would have the income to sponsor them, but based on processing times its faster for them to get the F2B visa rather than my mother sponsoring her brothers who have 4th preference. My mother is 45, hopefully she doesn't die in the next decade!

Just wondering is there a chart with specific numbers showing what amount of $$ is needed?

Have their mother file for them and your mother (their sister) file for them as a backup in case something where to happen to your grandmother.

Sponsorship is not going to be looked at for quite some time - when their petitions dates are current at the NVC

I appreciate the advice! I’ll let them know to do just that!

The F2B is 8 years and my mother’s is 14. Should have filed in 08 when my mother became a citizen or 09 when my grandma got her green card.

There is no way the current financial guidelines will still be in place in 8-10 years, or whenever they are able to get a visa.
