IR-5 - Need advise urgently.

My parents already have IR-5 visa and it expires in July 2020 and I have come to know that POTUS has extended the ban of not issuing new green cards until end of this year.

I reached out to Mumbai Embassy as they told that I needed to renew the visa and my parents need to do another round of medical check up.

I wanted to know what if their visa expires? Do I have to start this procedure again? Should I go ahead and send their passport to embassy to renew their visa? I know that they will not be able to come to USA until next year but just in case.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

International travel is ban from India.

Really? I have read reports of recent arrivals. Wonder how they managed it. I don’t know any details.  Maybe repatriation flights.

No you do not have to start the whole process again as I am in the same position as I could not travel to US on IR5 and my visa expired. I reached to Embassy who said I will be reissued the visa once the US consulate in Mumbai opens.

Thank you for the response. That's a great relief.

Question, when did you ask that question to them? Before or after extension of EO?

some embassies example Italy are saying that they cannot reissue visas while the ban is in place. I am not sure there is an official policy on this yet.

Note this from the US embassy in Vietnam, which is reopening for limited visa issuance next week:

Previously Issued Visas and Visa Renewals: If you already have a U.S. immigrant visa that has not expired, you may still use it to immigrate to the United States. If your immigrant visa has expired due to factors beyond your control, please contact our office here for instructions on how to renew it; there is a fee, and you will need to undergo a new medical examination. Note that we presently cannot renew visas in categories suspended by President Trump’s April 22 Proclamation.
