My husband has 4 months in the US already, due to the Covid-19 he has not received his social security card or resident card/ID . So I call USCIS trying to get any info or updates, the representative told me that his resident card should be arriving by July 7th but she also told me that she doesnt see anything about his Social Security card, she told me that I have to fill out form I-765 for him.

I thought that form I-130 gives him a social security card? Or do I really have to fill out form I-765 (form cost $495)

SS # and card are free so wait till ss office opens

and UCSIC does the work for the SS card only if you checked the box on ds 260 for that to happen

Oh ok thank you so much. Yeah I'm kind of worried because he can't work without a social security number.

Why not?  https://www.ssa.gov/employer/hiring.htm

According to the IRS it is not illegal.

Many people come legally to the US to work and do not have a SS#

and the 551 stamp on the visa allows the person to work

This is true, but in the real world you know the employer is going to ask for the SSN. You can quote what the link says, but in the real world how many  employers are going to hire and let work without a SSN? Not many I suspect...it's  a catch-22!

4 years, 11 months, 2 weeks and 3 days

Citizenship Complete!

USCIS is like a box of chocolates, you never know what kind of answer you are going to get!!!!

Yep, that's the same thing they told me that I would have to send them form ss5 with his passport. But I called the social security office again the lady was really nice and helpful, she told me just to wait 2 more weeks because immigration normally takes care of sending the Social Security card after sanding  the  residence card.

Thank you for your answer and these informations 🙂

USCIS told me few days ago that I am supposed to receive my GC within 30 days so from then I will wait on my SSN and see what happens .

My husband arrived on March 21, 2020.  We also checked the box for the SSN card to be mailed automatically.  3+ months later...  No SSN card.  California SSA offices are still closed, but I learned his GC is arriving today.

I want to get his SSN, but it's so risky sending his original passport by mail.

Our ROC story so far...
1/3/2022: I-751 sent via USPS Priority Mail; delivered to Phoenix Lockbox 1/5
1/6/2022: CC processed for filing and biometric fees
1/7/2022: Received receipt # via text
1/15/2022:  Received NOA and 24-month extension letter
1/22/2022:  Received biometrics appointment letter
2/8/2022:  Biometrics appointment
10/2/2023:  SURPRISE!  We received the I-751 approval letter and 10-year green card without an interview.
