My partner was offered the opportunity to keep at his role part time remotely which would be great as it will take some of the stress off of him finding a job immediately, but we are VERY confused about the tax situation. Think he would essentially need to be a self-employed contractor for this to work?

There is a tax forum on Visa Journey and this thread is already so off the topic of interview dates. But yes, self employed works. Independent contractor is easier on your employer. He will have to get an Employer Identification number (EIN) from the IRS and report your year end wages (those after POE) to the IRS and to you on a form 1099-MISC

 If you remain his “employee” rather than “contractor” the employer will still need an EIN and will also have to withhold US federal tax, Social Security, and Medicare contributions from each check and submit the money each payday to the IRS on your behalf. Contractors are responsible for paying those contributions to the IRS on their own behalf Via quarterly estimated tax payments.

$220 extracted and they even congratulate you for paying lol - Well assuming they change the CR1 to IR1 at POE and SS card arrives I believe I won't have anymore paperwork to deal with for a bit... That would be a beautiful thing.

Next step is setting up an LLC but I'm pretty much on top of that.

Okay I think I’ve gone confused now 😂 what is a difference between CR1 and IR1? I thought it was just a different naming convention 🤦🏼‍♀️

However, are you able to submit your civil documenuts without finance ones? I’m oretty ready for my submission but still waiting for tax transcripts.

If you submitted financials to NVC, they should already be in your embassy file. That’s why some of the interview reports say they weren’t asked for. Another said the officer said the W2 was missing and had to be sent before final approval. She was sure it had been uploaded to NVC, but had to send again to embassy after the interview. Stuff happens.

So I only have to pay the £20 for the courier fee at the interview and the £220 after I get issued the visa? That is all that is left right?

Yes! Once you are holding your passport with visa inside. There will also be some instructions with your passport that explains about paying that $220 bill.

Does the embassy get all of the supporting documents/picture which was submitted with I-130 petition?

Yes. They never ask for photos together or additional proof of relationship. Save the effort and just bring your originals of documents uploaded to NVC like birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.

My interview was 9AM Monday and as of 2PM Thursday I am holding my CR1 visa! :) Now just to pay that last fee.

Super happy at how smooth this has all gone, Covid delayed the moved by 6 months.

Congratulations ;)

You register your appointment via the link, you can upgrade to premium delivery and pay online - it’s £19.

So do I not pay if its not premium delivery? I'm a bit confused....

Don't want it delivered to my house as I work 12 hour shifts and I won't be there to sign for it most likely.

No I don’t think so. You pick a collection point when you register your appointment that’s nearest to where you live to collect your visa etc. After this you can then upgrade to premium delivery which delivers direct to your address instead.

You have to follow the embassy instructions to register your appointment and make courier arrangements. The courier needs to know where you want it delivered or the hub location that will hold it for you to pick up. Depending on your shift hours, if the hub is closed they don’t hang on to it long.They will send it back to the embassy.

If there is somebody else at your home, they can receive delivery. Or you could schedule delivery to work or to the home of a a friend/relative who will be available.

After you have attended your medical examination, you should then register your visa interview through the Visa Appointment Service website at https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv and follow these instructions:

  • Select “I have received a Consular interview appointment date from the National Visa Center (NVC), Kentucky Consular Center (KCC), or the Consular Section and I have been instructed to register my appointment on this site”;
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to register an account;
    • If your family members are applying under your case number, you may “add” applicants to your account after you have added your own details.
  • You will be asked to select your delivery method for the return of your passport if your visa application is successful. Delivery to a courier depot is free. If you wish to upgrade to home/office delivery you can pay an additional fee through your account;
  • Please go to “Print Instructions” in order to print your courier confirmation page. You must bring this with you on the day of the visa interview.
  • You should also bring your appointment letter you received from NVC
